My drip pan under the frig over flows with water then on to my floor. both fans work. Air flow from freezer to frig and back seams good. Tube going to drip pan is clean. Seals looks good and clean. MOD ED2SHGXMT00. Problem occurs a lot but I work to much to see duration.

Heater glow behind frz back wall is normal during auto defrost cycle. This happens about 2 or 3 times a day for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The water migrating into the fresh food section could be from a blocked drain tube which should be be in the area directly under the red glow you noticed. Should be a hole going through the floor into the drain pan under the refrigerator. Force hot water down hole until it flows freely.

Usually that is caused by a bad defrost heater thermostat or defrost timer. Failure to automatically defrost is the cause of freezing up.
If you don't feel up to doing the work yourself you should have an appliance repair shop look at it.

The gurgling is caused by water in the catch pan under the fridge. When you defrosted it some of the water made it into the drip pan (and maybe overflowed onto the floor). The fan inside the compressor area under and behind the freezer may be splashing in the excess water in the drip pan. This by itself is not a real problem since it is designed to automatically evaporate the water drained during automatic defrosting, but the excess water and potential overflow onto the floor can become a problem.

If the drain isn't stopped up than the water isn't draining into the drain.

The evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.


Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the inside of the freezer at the bottom of the rear cover.

Unplug it and do the messy (water) manual defrost by directing a fan into the freezer compartment with the contents removed for just over 2 hours. The reason for the 2 hours is you have to also defrost the frozen drain funnel under the evaporator coils

Remove the fiberboard cover in the back and use a shop vac to empty the drip pan contents. Make sure to clean off the very end of the compartment drain tube as they tend to get nasty. Once you have this clean... revers air flow... i.e. us the vacuum to force air UP into the freezer compartment drain at the drip pan to float out any debris. DO NOT use compressed air as the compartment drain hose will separate and leak. Reinstall fiboerboard cover AFTER cleaning the condenser coils and fan.

After you have done the above the drain should work.

Without a model number this will be a very generic response. Most likely your evaporator drain is clogged with ice. You must do a manual defrost by unplugging the unit and doing a manual defrost with a fan directed into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours (Water mess so be prepaired) The reason you do it for 2 hours is so that the ice in the drain funnel will melt. After the 2 hour period and tending to the water mess.... open the back of the unit by removing the fiber-board cover. Find the end of the compartment drain tube and make sure it is NOT blocked. Take a vaccum and direct pressurized air up through the drain tube to float out or clear any debris in the drain funnel. Have a 2nd person listen for air flow up through the freezer compartment drain. Once you are sure the drain is clear.... clean out the condenser coils while you have the back open and then reinstall the fiberboard cover. Just make sure the drain tube END is in the drip pan before closing the rear panel.

If you do NOT ever hear air flow up through the freezer compartment drain... you will have to remove the evaporator cover and dig out the debris.
Plug the unit back in and return it to service. If you have a repeat of the dripping water... respond with your model number and I can tell you what you need to check.

Most likely defrost water not evaporating and running over drip pan onto lloor.

Check the bottom coils... Dirty coils can block air flow and prevent defrost water evaporation. Also check fan. Air pulled across defrost water evaporates it. If fan is not running, refrigerator will also be inefficient, as refrigerant condenser needs air flow over the coils to work properly.

your freezer drain is plugged and water is dripping into frig you need to get fixed and soon or it will freeze air openings to your frig and stop cooling

It could be the defrost thermostat located on the condenser coil on the left side of the fan in the freezer compartment... or else it could be the defrost timer located in the refrigerator behind the dome cover... defrost the freezer and make sure the drain tube is not blocked nor the air passage which blow cold air from freezer to refrigerator compartment below. Water should drip from freezer down hole into tube to an evaporator pan on the top of the compressor near the floor in the back. Make sure the tube is free flowing by pouring some hot water down it before restarting refrigerator. Rarely the defrost heating element shorts, but a simple continuity test will determine if that is o.k. Make sure the refrigerator is uplugged before checking any of these areas... there's 120 volts all about and with water and ice it can cause quite a jolt!

I don't know this particular frig, but evidently the defroster doesn't work. Frost buildup has blocked the flow of cold air.

There is a defrost timer, under the frig, accessible from the front. You can turn it with a screw driver. Turn it till you hear a click. If the timer hasn't been turning, that should turn on the defroster, a heating element nested among the freezer coils. Wait half an hour and if it is defrosting, water should be dripping into the drip pan underneath the frig. If so, then replace the defrost timer and you're good to go.

If that doesn't make it defrost, then the problem is probably the defrost thermostat, in with the freezer coils. When the frig defrosts, the defrost heater stays on until the defrost thermostat gets warm. It should be open circuit while warm. But if it is open circuit while cold, it is bad and is the cause of your defrost problem.

If you open up the freezer coils, use a hair dryer to defrost. That is safer than hot water.
