Here is a list of many different versions of the NordicTrack Exp 1000XI. If you know your exact model number you can click on your version and view a parts list and purchase an owner's manual. If you just need to look at a diagram of all the parts many of the equipment pages have that available to view for free. Hope that helps.

To view the manual you will need adobe reader, which you can get for free from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ You probably already have it though, please try opening the file first and find out. Here is the manual / guide please give it a few minutes the file is quite large. It is the manual for the EXP 1000XL, but is essentially the same model. This is the closest thing available anywhere on the internet. If it is not sufficient please reply to me here and I will get you the contact information on how to get the 1000 X one, but I believe this one will work perfectly for you:

if that is where it catches then that is how far it goes there is no adjustments. Make sure the incline is the whole way down

Hello there. Yes you actually can use a magnet. (thats all the safety key is) It will need to be strong enough to make the switch inside the console activate. I use one from a telescoping magnet used for picking up small screws (available at the big box stores) when I dont have one on service calls.
Just to let you know a refrigerator magnet will not be strong enough!
