This is a possible malware or virus attack. Your system is encountering data or system corruption preventing it to execute the command during shut down. Best fix is to reinstall Windows 7 in your computer to erradicate all errors and make sure to install an updated security software (antivirus) afterwards.
G'day mate ,just a thought is the new computer a SATA drive and if so it can tranfer at a rate of Giabytes per second instead of the slow IDE drive . now in properties of drives is IDE tranfer enable by windows 7 or in the BIOS ?
ok for one your computer no matter what OS you are using stores no drive letter , a drive letter is only given in the order as it is installed on your system for example if you use 2 internal HDD and one external HDD your computers C: drive will be the master the F: will be the slave and the external will be G: , now if you have changed the order of the drives from your last OS then it will conflict to the last drive letter given , your unit will know what letter it was given so it must be in the same location for the new OS , there is also the possibility that Windows 7 doesn't support the driver for that unit , you can try hooking it up to another computer retrieving your data , then hooking it back up to windows 7 run its software , then installing the data back into your HDD
You can do a couple things to try recovering your data. The first thing you can try is a repair install of the OS. To do this, you put in your OS disk, boot to the CDROM (it should automatically do it). Once it is in let the installation go until it detects a previous installation. After this it will ask if you want to run a repair installation, to which you say yes.
If this doesn't work or you don't want to try this step, you can remove the hard drive and install it into an external hard drive kit you can purchase from best buy. Make sure you buy the kit without the hard drive already in it! The kit will have instructions on how to install the hard drive. But it is very straight forward.
If you do not feel comfortable doing these steps I recommend you consult a local tech for assistance.
In short, yes it absolutely is possible to recover your information.
when saving files from any OS two methods come to mind 1. using windows to back up files . and 2. using a redundant static drive ( a HD without an OS installed or an external HD without an OS installed ) , since you used windows to back up your files you'll have to find them in Documents , they will be listed as the old user IE ; "Tom's Computer" if you didn't use the same user name ( name of computer ) you'll find it tricky to apply the old data to the new OS , note that some programs wont work with windows 7 if 64 bit because the drivers that run the programs will not install into windows 7 , most manufacturers are hurrying to update the drivers to windows 7 since 7 is no long in its infancy .
you are probably confuse by the Sandisk software. you can uninstall it, but i advice you don't. when you plug it, it will appear in windows explorer window 2 more devices: a removable device and a dvd/cd drive. copy your documents to the removable device.
if the drive is not working and it ask you if you want to format it be aware that you won't be able to use its software. if you have data on the device, make a quick format and after that use get data back (gdb4fat) software to recover it.
