Electric cord on my Rowenta (Model DE880) steam iron lasts about 6 months. The black or white wire keeps braking after about 6 months of use. I'm a retired navy ET and electrical engineer. I took Iron back to Kohl's the first time and they replaced the unit. The replacement had identical problem. However, I repaired it myself 3 times. Each time it lasts about 6 months. I suspect that the power cord wires that are twisted to form the conductor are to heavy of a gauge. To much bending brakes the wire. My experiance tells me that the twisted wires have to be of very small gauge and twisted quite close.

y cord started sparking. What should I do? It was an expensive iron.

I have the same problem. I know of a friend also that has replaced his iron three times; this will be my third time all due to the power chord which I have ensured this time was pulledout from the plug and not the cord itself.

Rowenta refused to help without the 35.00 fee to ship the item to their service center. I can purchase a a new cord online for less. My product is the DM 860- for nearly 100.00

I have the same problem on the Rowenta Luxe DM860 model. I know of others who have now been through three units for the same issue with the cord.;this will be my third time now. I contacted Rowenta who advised me to send it to their service center for a fee of 35.00. The power cord online is less than this. I was trying to bring out the fact that there is a problem with the manufacturing of the product as others have the same complaint- they do not care; it was more than a year old.

Replace it with a lighter gauge wire or a coiled power type cord if you can find one....

i did think of something else.... is the wire in the cord braided ?

that would be a better alternative as it's more suitable for flexing

My Rowenta DE880 had the same problems: the cord bends and wears near the attachment point to the iron. The last time tried to use it, it caught fire...REALLY SCARY and DANGEROUS!
I was looking here to see if I could replace the cord, but after reading how the problem persists, I think I will just buy a new and different iron.

Retractable cord

Don't be in such a rush to repair your Rowena when the cord won't retract. Simply spray the opening with silicone spray and wait 20 minutes. Hit the retract button and VOILA!!!!!

Rowenta DM-880 steam button sticks. Spray button works fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

It is possible that there is dirt that has accumulated into the stem of the steam button and is sticking the button. It is better to remove the lid and make a good cleaning to free the movement. use good spray of jet air, use WD40 to remove dirt and free
This will work for sure.

I have a Rowenta Professional iron that is spitting sometning onto dress shirts and leaving permanent marks. There does not seem to be anyone in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada that can address this problem. ...

The iron probably needs to be cleaned. You can use half water and half white vinagar to clean. Hope this helps. Those white pieces are mineral deposit buildup.
