Bodum Antigua 5670/5671 Electric Burr Grinder Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 16, 2011

Just bought the Bodum Antigua Burr grinder and the instructions say not to change the grind level unless the motor is on. Not exactly sure what this means. When you remove the cone to clean it and twist it back on I need to turn it to the grind I am using-do I need to have the machine turned on for this?

    slow grinding operation.Motor seems to stall.I think grinding chamber is jambed with ground coffee.Outlet holes were accidently covered over by rubber lid of glass container during a grinding operation because receiving container offset.Ground coffee was not able to drop into the glass container

My bodum burr grinder stopped while grinding beans. It will not run at all.

If all the above except some lame answer about using "rice" doesn't solve your problem, then the THERMAL FUSE will have to be replaced, and it is very easy and cheap to do so, especially if you do it yourself. A THERMAL FUSE will shut down everything so that if for any reason the machine overheats, it won't burn up the motor.

How to fix a bodum bistro electric coffee grinder that doesn't grind well

This can be caused by several things;
If it used to be good but is now faulty it is most likely that it just needs cleaning. If you are using beans that are 'oily' they can clog the grinder, you should anyway disassemble it and clean every year. Do not use soap and water, just brush it with a stiff brush (e.g. the stiffest type of toothbrush) and a vacuum cleaner.
There is also a possibility that something has got into the grinder along with the coffee beans that has damaged the grinding wheels; in that case you need to replace the wheels.

Have a grinder and it is full of coffee and stuck. It seems the beans were more oily and now I am trying to figure out how to clean it out. Please help

  • Try to grind all the beans through.
  • Put some uncooked rice inside the hopper and grind it, it is very good at cleaning if you don't have Grindz. Get Grindz if you can to grind and clean the burrs.
  • Try to take the grinder apart and brush off and clean off the burrs by hand.

Am considering buying a Bodum Bistro grinder. Need to know if the burr grinder is conical and whether or not the inside cone can be removed for cleaning

It,s conical. It can be easely remowed for cleaning. Just take it easy so you know how to put the pieces back again. Its a very good priceworthy grinder. I still use mine after 15 years. But as it comes from the factory it will not grind fine enough for espresso. There are various methods and instructions on the internet how to tweak them to grind finer if you want that. Internally the mechanism looks very similar to the Solis and Dualit grinder. Since my grinder i quite old i dont know if my tweaks will work on more modern machines. But the basic construktion i still the same.
