The most likely cause for this is a zoom or focus lens out of place or impaired in some way and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Nikon Nikkor 50mm F/1.4 D SIC AF will not auto focus anymore after drop

Hi Bob.
This lens does´nt have an internal focus motor, this only works with an in-camera focus motor. So, if it is stuck after drop, there is a bend over the focus barrel. This means the manual focus will not work neither. If manual focus works normally, there an electronic problem at the PCB (broken element).

The manual focus ring on my camera doesn't work. The ring turns but does not seem to adjust the focus. Automated focusing still works. How to fix it?

Two methods:-

1. Use the slider switch on the left of the camera to set it to MF (manual focus). The focus ring is an electronic one rather than a physical control like the zoom ring, so the response can seem slow.

2 Go into the camera menu and enable DMF (Direct Manual Focus). This allows you to override the autofocus simply by adjusting the focus control, but it does not work if the slider switch is set to the AF C setting (continuous autofocus), it only work in the AF-S (AF only activates once when the shutter is half pressed).

My cable release is not working. It triggers the auto focus but will not take a picture.

Try setting the camera to M manual focus and manually focusing on the subject. Some combination of focus size and focus type may not focus unless the sensor sees a subject and is in focus. So if the sensor cannot see and know it is in focus it will not fire. If you subject is not moving then focusing in manual will ensure the subject is in focus and the camera can shoot.

Lens will not auto focus with flash up

Not sure of you camera model, but the flash will fire momentarily when you try to focus indoors as there is not enough light for the auto focus to work. This is so the camera can determine a distance from the subject to the camera. This is called focus assist (ref to your manual). It will work outdoors as there is enough light and contrast for the focus to work.

Kit lenses included with the camera are notoriously known not to focus well in dark conditions.

Sigma 28-300 3.5-6.3 won't focus

Did it ever work on this camera?
I have seen some Sigma lenses that are auto focus on canon film cameras but then when put on the digital they dont work right. If you have used it on this camera then make sure the lens is clean.sometimes dirt on the front wil make it try focusing on the dirt. Next try focusing in manual focus to make sure the focus is working. Then take the lens off and then put it back on and make sure it clicks into place.

Let me know if none of those things work. also make sure to try focus on something close and somthing far away.

let me know how it works,
Caleb

Magic Focus does not work.

Convergence issues usually resolved by changing convergence output amplifier IC's.....Original STK392-110 should be replaced
with upgrade Stk394-160E Hitachi part # CZ 01341,change both
for reliability.....check B+ feed resistors for over-heating....T.
