15.5 HP single Cyl. OHV Briggs & Stratton Eng. # 28N707 replaced connecting rod reassembled everything. Engine turns over fine, but it seems valves are not correctly timed with crankshaft. It seems to want to run, but I am getting blowback or backfire through carb and exaust. I placed the two timing marks on cam shaft and crankshaft together, reassembled, tried it, didn't work. Took it apart again, turned crankshaft 360 degrees and ressembled again and got, the above results. I used the steel pusrod on the exaust and the alluminum one on the intake. Am I not placing the timing marks in correct position? I ajusted the tappets @ .006 for intake and .010 for the exaust. The book calls for .005 to .007 and .009 to .011 for exaust. I just can't seem to get the timing right. Need advice, Thanks

IF THE ENGINE STILL TURNS OVER YOU MAY BE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES ON THE OHV ENGINES PULL THE VALVE COVERS AND SEE IF ALL THE TAPPET RODS ARE THERE IF NOT THIS COULD BE WHAT IS BOUNCING AROUND INSIDE
WORST CASE IF ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER THE CONNECTING ROD TO THE PISTON COULD BE BROKEN
