Hello, how do you clean the black stove top of a frigidare stove without damaging it. I have a lot of grease . Soap and water is not getting it off. Model FGF382HCE. Serial VF91050271

SOURCE: how to get grease stains off

Hi, Is this a glass top type? If it is then DO NOT use any abrasives, soft scrub, ect. Use a razor scraper like for paint and keep it flat. Then purchase any commercial glass/ceramic cook top cleaner (grocery or hardware or diy store) and use a drop about the size of a dime on each burner. Fold a couple of paper towels and in a circular motion buff the top and when it looks clean turn the towels over on to the dry side and polish it to like new. Good Luck!

Soak the black stove caps in 1 part ammonia and 3 parts water. Let soak for several hours. I let it soak overnight. It should clean right up.

SOURCE: none of my stove top burners will spark to ignite

There is an ignition module that sparks when it calls for lighting. This module could have a loose connection or be dead.

How can we clean our enamel black top stove
I use Vim creme cleaner. Police use it to polish the chrome on their guns. Using a paper towel squirt a tablespoon or two all over black stove top (I have a gas one) Then with a wad of wet paper towels scrub and clean off all the dust, grease and water spots. For the final step, get a dry, soft towel and rub to a nice shiny finish reoving the residual Vim streaks. Works very well and does not take a lot of time.

Start with some hot water and dish soap and a non abrasive (plastic) scouring pad and get the main stuff off. Hit it with some "glass top stove cleaner" like Ceramabryte or one available at the grocery store. Follow the directions. This step can require a lot of elbow grease. Polish it and buff it off with a dry towel until the streaks of dried cleaner are gone.

How to remove burnt grease, fix lightly scratched black stovetop?
Hi, I assume we are talking about a flat glass top. First the bad news. using any abrasives will permanently scratch the glass hence the dull spot. You can however make it look a little better. Grease spots and the like can be removed with a flat razor blade scraper which needs to be held flat to avoid the corners making scratches. Use any good glass/ceramic cooktop cleaner ( which is the ONLY cleaner you should ever use ) (available in your local grocery diy store and some hardware stores). The cleaner is a thick liquid, put about a dime size drop on each burner area and use a paper towel to buff out the finish like waxing a car. Once it looks clean flip your paper towel over and shine the top to like new. Good Luck!

Top of Gemini range

You said, you have the stainless Gemini range and the top is black. I cannot get the top clean. It looks like the paint or the surface is "bubbled". I have tried EVERYTHING and it always looks like there is grease spatters on the top. I have all Maytag appliances and I am VERY disappointed with this stove. If I could, I would take it back...but I keep trying. I let the Maytag stove I had go. It was made in the late '50's, so I could 'update'. What a mistake!!!

The other option is to order a new glass top and have it replaced.
No abrasives!!

Stove smoke and fumes
Bebbie,

You didn't say exactly what it smells like but I assume it is not the smell of gas. This sounds like spillage of food into an area of the stove and the subsequent heating of it. Depending on which burner (or the oven) is involved, you're going to have to chase this down and clean it. Since there is minimal chance that this is electrical in nature, your other concern is a partially plugged burner caused by the mess.

Some notes: Be sure that any flame you do see has a predominantly blue appearance. If it is predominantly yellow, there is dirt which is restricting the air supply. This can cause carbon monoxide which is deadly.
