Check the fertilizer bag for instructions. It will tell you the number to set it at for a drop spreader and a broadcast spreader.

Howdy Shan,
Most spreaders will use a 3-6 setting depending on the size of the granule and the type of spreader you have . You need to take into consideration your walking pace as well because over fertilizing will damage your grass.

SOURCE: I have a Scott Rotary Fertilizer Spreader. When I

If the wheels turn( that is you can push the spreader easily) but the vertical shaft that spins the broadcasting plate doesn't, seems like the gears connecting the axle to that vertical shaft are worn; but if the wheels just slide along the gropund without turning then it would seem something right under the bin is keeping the verical shaft from turning. But I'm NOT an expert; I'm looking for an answer myself,

SOURCE: I have a Scotts Accugreen 3000 Drop Spreader. How

I found drop-rate tables at http://www.vigoro.com/ProductCategories/WeedInsectControl/SummerFertilizer/ProductDetails/Spreader+Settings.htm and http://www.bayeradvanced.com/media/productlabel/502840A_label.pdf. I don't know how accurate they are, but they are consistent with one another so I'm using them :)

What setting do i use for scotts Basic spreader?

Depends on the fertilizer you are going to use. There should be a table on the fertilizer bag showing the spreader and setting. If your spreader is not shown, select a spreader like yours for a setting. Watch how much coverage you get and adjust from there.

I am sorry that neither spreader performed as they should have. This is very concerning to us, and we would like to get more information about the spreaders, if you still have 1 the manufacture date would be most helpful to us. It sounds like you could possibly have an over-application of the product as well. If you could call us at 1-800-543-8873, we would be happy to discuss this with you. Stacey at Scotts.

Settings for scotts products

The bag of fertilizer should tell you on the back of the setting for your spreader. It will say, Scotts 3000, Greenway XXX, etc, with the setting for that particular product.
