Hp deskjet5650 Had a paperjam and opened cover to unjam, now the lid will not lock closed. I get the following error. * Top cover open. The device cannot print because the top cover is open. Close the top cover or cancel print. I do know how to close the cover so I don't need a smart answer but this one locks into place somehow and this is not happening. Any help would be appreciated.

When closing the cover very slowly do you feel at the very bottom before it "closes" a slight resistance?You should have to push it down to finish the movement. Simply let the lid rest on your fingers and lower it into place, if there's no resistance just at dead bottom then the physical tab attached to the pegs of the cover may have broken off. The swich to "close lid" is probably internal by the lid joint.

Check to make sure the print carriage isn't snagged either. any little piece of anything can cause problems.
Good luck.

T652n 202.03 paperjam

1Open the upper-front cover and remove the toner cartridge.2
Look into the printer. Remove any jammed sheets of paper that you find there.

  • If the print job only consisted of this one page, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If the print job consisted of more than one page, confirm the entire paper path is clear before printing again. Do the following:

    1. Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1').
    2. Remove any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper you find here, then reinstall the tray.
    3. Go around to the back of the machine and open the upper-rear cover. Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find, then close the cover.
    4. Once you have confirmed that the entire paper path is clear, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover.
    5. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If you cannot locate any jammed paper under the toner cartridge, then check the rest of the printer for any jammed paper. Do the following:

    • Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1') and look for any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper.
    • If you do not find any jammed pages there, reinstall the tray and go around to the back of the machine. Open the upper-rear cover and look there.
    • If the entire paper path appears to be clear, close the rear cover and power off the printer. Reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Power the printer back on. If a 200 error continues on power up, a sensor in the printer may be malfunctioning. This will require a service call to correct the issue. Having trouble with my whirlpool cabrio . . . showing "DU" . . .

The F30 error code (dU) will flash when the dispenser motor cannot be driven to its proper position.

Door Unlock Error

A Door Unlock Error occurs if the door cannot be unlocked.
It will try to unlock the door 6 times before displaying the error.

Door Lock Mechanism broken.
Check Door Lock/Switch Assembly for foreign objects
Check Wire Harness connections to the Door Lock/Switch Assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU)
Door Lock/Switch Assembly Failure

If it is a cabrio:
dU flashes if the following conditions occur:
Excessive force on door lid is preventing lock bolt from retracting.
Wash media buildup is preventing lock bolt from retracting.
Machine/motor control cannot determine if door lid is in an unlocked state.

TEST #8 Door Lid Lock
Perform the following checks if washer fails to lock (or unlock).
1. Perform Manual: Door Switch and Manual: Door Lid Lock tests.
2. Remove the console to access the machine/ motor control assembly. See Accessing & Removing the Electronic Assemblies.
3. Visually check that the P12 connector is inserted all the way into the machine/motor control. If visual check passes, go to step 4. If visual check fails, reconnect P4 and repeat step 1.
4. Check the lid lock motor winding and switches by removing P12 from the machine/ motor control and checking the
resistance values....

Component/Resistance Unlocked/Resistance Locked/Contacts Measured/Contacts Measured:

Motor Winding/35 ±5 O/35 ±5 O/P12-2/P12-3/
Lock Switch - Home/0 O/Open Circuit/P12-1/P12-4
Lock Switch - Lock/Open Circuit/0 O/P12-1/P12-7
Lock Switch - Lid/Lid Closed = 0 OLid Open = Open Circuit/Lid Closed = 0 O Lid Open = Open Circuit/P12-1/P12-5

If resistance values are good, go to step 5. If switch measurements do not match the values shown in the table for unlocked (or locked) conditions, a problem
exists in the door lid lock. Replace the door lid lock.

5. If the Manual: Door Switch or Manual: Door Lid Lock in step 1 failed, then the machine/motor control has failed: Unplug washer or disconnect power.
Replace machine/motor control assembly. Perform the Manual: Door Switch and Manual: Door Lid Lock in step 1 to verify repair.

Hello;

Try Reseatting the Catridges, follow the steps

* Switch on the unit and open the lid on the top cover
* Remove the Catridges from the printer
* Then just re-install the Catridges
* Then just close the unit lid or top cover
* After closing, cycle the power of the device by turning of the device for a few seconds
* Turn the printer back on
* Try printing a test page

If the before solution did not work, try the next one.

Wipe out the Catridge contacts
* Turn the unit on and open the lid or top cover
* Remove the Catridges,
* Use a clean cloth or a clean coffee filter to wipe the catridge. Wipe the catridge so briskly
to clear the waxy lubricants from the gold contacts.
* The contacts inside the printer may also require the cleaning. Use the clean cloth to wipe
from top to bottom of the contacts.
* Re-install the catridges and close the printers lid or top cover.
* Then try printing the test page.

If even the second solution didn't work try the last solution down

Perform a hard reset on the device
* Verify the unit is power on.
* Then unplug the power cord from the printer
* Wait 30 seconds
* Press and hold the power button in the front panel
* Plug the power cord back into the printer
* Open the top lid or top cover and reinstall the catridges
* Turn the device on
* Print a test page.

If the problem is unsolved, try replacing a new catridge.

Hp deskjet printer 6840 wont print .keeps on saying top cover is open when it is actually closed.

Pop off the right side cover - it is just held with clips. At the hinge, you will see that the cover switch arm that is supposed to move up and down as the cover opens & closes (in the slot in the geared hinge) is probably broken off. It is in the up position when the lid is closed, and down when the lid is open. I cut the shaft of a Q-tip to length and wedged it into the space to keep the cover switch up all of the time and still allow free movement of the lid.

Printer lid open light is coming on when printer lid is closed

The printer lid error can appear if any of the following are true:
- top lid is open
- rear duplexer or flat panel is not installed correctly
- cartridge bay area door is open

All of these conditions are detected by a series of sensors or circuits in the printer design so with regard to the lid and cartridge bad door you need to make sure that nothing has broken off that closes the switch.

I'd lay odds that it's most likey the rear panel/duplex unit. I'd recommend taking this out as per the manuals instructions and then reinserting it, carefully so that it fits in place properly.

Hope that solves your problem.
