SOURCE: Laptop won't startup

just push "num lock" button :).  This flashing Lock symbol [9] means "Num Lock" is on - numeric keyboard enabled. If you wish turn it on or off just press the <Num lock> key, sometimes you have to use the <FN>+<Num Lock> keys.

SOURCE: on boot up a lock symbol with a '9' is lit & nothing else happens

the "9" inside a lock means that your Num Lock button has been pressed. If all you see is the ">" then maybe you are looking at what's called a DOS prompt, and I have no idea why that would display. Try holding the Power Switch for 10 seconds and restart your computer. Hopefully things will be better, and you know where your Num Lock key is.

How do i diy update my dell vistro 1510?

In terms of hardware, you would only be able to upgrade the Memory, Hard Drive, and possibly the CPU.

If you want to upgrade the operating system, you could put windows 7 or 8.1 on there.

But your best bet would be to get another laptop. .

Hello,

It is definitely possible you have a damaged screen component. At this point I would recommend taking it to a service center or call them and have it shipped for repair. You may even have a local computer repair shop that could help you out and maybe save some money :)

The problem has been narrowed down by connecting it to the TV. We know the laptop works fine otherwise except for the screen.

Hi, I have bought this dell vostro 1015 laptop one and half year ago. Day before yesterday my windows XP hanged and I was unable to shut down. So I pressed power on button for few seconds to switch off...

It sounds like your hard drive has gone bad. As this is a laptop you can try to reseat the hard drive, if that does not help then it might be a case of hard drive crash.

Hi. If you don't have any important files in your hard drive, you can recover your computer to factory image
by restarting your computer and keep tapping F8 when you see the Dell screen to go to windows advanced Option.

Select repair your computer, press enter and click next. enter your administrator password and choose Image restore.

Hope it helps! ^_^

Change hard disc problem

Ah this is a nightmare problem.... the only solution I know of to fix this is tiresome to say the least

Reinstall XP
But you need to delete the partition that Windows is on
and then reboot your computer
Go back to install XP and all should work well -- you may need to remake the partition and format it before Windows recognises the disk - but that is simple enough

If you can not boot into the CD - you will need to change your BIOS settings to boot from CD first

When your computer comes on a screen displays
It will tell you which key to press to get to your BIOS setup / settings page

Look for boot options and make sure the CD is first on the list

That will get things working -- a total drag I know but it is the only way I have found of getting this to work

Please vote kindly if this has helped

Intellistation e pro acts as if booting, but doesn't

Its nothing but the port of your display cable in computer tower and the display card. If its inbuilt (on board) display card then the slot where the extention is linked. If you can then just open the tower and change the slot of the display card. 100% gurantee it would work.
