I have a KitchenAid KUDS01FLSS2 and was wondering if it is normal for the door to fall open... what I mean is the door requires to be supported when opening. Otherwise, the door will swing down and almost smash against the floor. Are there springs missing/broken?

Yes indeed that sounds exactly like the door springs being broken. The springs are fairly easy to replace, what needs to be done to replace the springs is remove the lowest service panel/kick plate and hook the springs on the tub support frame/leg and the other end goes on a notch in the door hinges. The part number for the spring is 8270182 they could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;
searspartsdirect.com
repairclinic.com
apdepot.com
apwagner.com
midwestapplianceparts.com

Even though only one may be broke its advisable to replace both at the same time.

Good luck,i hope i have been able to help you fix your dishwasher,
Gene

Falls open when? This unit wom't operate unless the door is secure so I assume you mean the door assist springs are disconnected or broken and the door just falls heavily to the open position after you unlatch it from the closed position. Try these, part 18 here

should attach to frame in an easy to distinguish hole or slot and to door hinges, number 2 here

Door falls open

The cables that are connected to the springs are broke, atleast one anyway. You'll need your model number off the machine to get them from a parts dealer. once you have them, pull the machine out a little ways and they install on the left and right side lower area.

I have a Kitchenaid dishwasher model KUDS01FLSS2. I finished replacing the door balancer cord and started the dw up and it started leaking underneath from the bottom somewhere around the middle of the...

In this Kitchenaid dishwasher model KUDS01FLSS2, the whole motor and water pump assembly simply sits (I think loose) in the bottom of the DW. From the inside, it is the round mechanism where the sprayer is mounted above the chopper, all one piece sitting in (or mounted with) a large rubber washer around it. Somehow this assembly had lifted up slightly on one side which allowed the water to just poor through the bottom floor of the DW. I simply pressed down on the whole mechanism positioning back in its proper place. It did not take much pressure at all to position it back into its place. This stopped the leak and is working like a charm.

I recently had the same problem. One of the cords that attaches the door to a spring had snapped. I purchased cord replacments at the following URL and completed the repair myself. http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=1059756&PPStack=1

Handle on oven door falling

Murray...after a DJ here in NY from the '60's!

First, why is the handle falling off? Is it loose or damaged? Most of these handles are only plastic with holes tapped in. If the holes are damaged and you can't fix them, you will have to replace. Most handles are through bolted in the door. You should be able to access those screws from the inside of the door. If not....

How do take a door apart: First locate any screws in the bottom of the door. Remove them. Open the door and remove screws from the sides and inside of door. Get help supporting the outside of the door and note that it will snap shut when you remove any weight from the door. Caution, most door glass is not well clipped in...it may come loose!!!! You may want to take pictures of the inside of the door once you open it. Once the door is apart, locate any fasteners holding the handle and attempt to tighten them. If not successful, you'll need that new handle. Get an extra set of hands to help with removal and reinstallation of that door skin. You'll need 'em!

Kitchaide Dishwash Door

There is normally 2 heavy springs & cables that control the "falling" of the door located in the bottom of the machine or it the door itself. Sounds like one (or both) have snapped.
