G5 Kirby drive problem

I have a similar problem, my Kirby drive switch is ok but when it is engaged it flips the machine, when you push/pull the machine the drive doesn't seem to engage properly, i have noticed that there is excess movement where the handle/hoover meet. It's as if a pin or some connection has come loose or broken.
thanks for any suggestion

Gary

There might be a problem with slide assembly. Some free movement is OK but sometimes the slide sticks and Kirby "keeps going".

Kirby G5 gearbox clicks, why?

most of the time the small fork that comes off of the transmission and connects to the top slide wears out which doesnt allow the transmission to engage properly

How do I attach the hose to a Kirby G5?

UN PLUG THE MACHINE before attempting this. There is a safety switch that prevents you from getting hurt but please just to be safe un plug the machine.

The hose attaches to the front of the machine. You will need to take off the brushroll nozzle first to do this.

Lift the front lid with the light on it. Pull the plastic lever from the front turn knob. Twist the plastic knob until the red markings line up. Turn the metal latch at the top of the nozzle. Pull off nozzle.

Take hose and attach it to where the nozzle was. The little plastic curved hooks on the hose attach to the metal rod. Once you have the hose on turn the metal latch to hold the hose onto the machine the same way the nozzle was held on.

Let me know if you need more help.
Thanks!

Kirby G5 rear wheels lock up completely when in "Drive"

When wheels lock when vacuum is OFF - it is normal. If it happens when Kirby is ON then there are a few things that may have gone wrong

Primary drive belt is broken or something is wrong with plastic gears. See how to check the primary drive belt HERE.

If it is fine and gears are spinning - then something must be wrong inside the transmission. Parts for tech drive are not available from manufacturer so you are on your own. It is not really complicated - 2 clutches that engage and disengage depending which direction you push the vacuum. But if something in there is broken - you have to get a new tranny. It is not like getting a transmission for a truck but it still will set you back by about 100 $.

Good Luck

Kirby G5 - the Tech Drive does seem to have much power

you need either a new nutreal cam bracket assembly, that is what engages and disengages the tech drive.OR to adjust the handle pivot assy- diffucult . this is not for the faint of heart. it is possible to fix them as i used to repair kirbys, however, I remember how frustrating it was to figure out how to disassemble and reassemble them. it is very complicated to a novice. I would recomend having it repaired professionaly. it is possible for a professional to repair it in a very short period of time.

another thing to consider. look on the UNDERSIDE of your Kirby, between the two drive wheels. just in fronnt of the tech drive/nutreal switch. there should be a screw there, tighten that screw up. actually tighten all of them. on My generation 3 the center screw came loose and it would not go in to drive and it would make an aweful clatter. hope this was helpful

Engaging belt on Kirby G5

first things first...take the powerhead off of the front of the kirby. If you look at where the powerhead connects to the front of the kirby you'll see a large hook...turn the hook using the crank on the front of the powerhead so that the belt is pulled up and away from the brushes. The hook stretches the belt so that it can fit over the fan drive.

Next, place the two "feet" of the powerhead onto the "perch" on the front of the kirby....lock it on by turning the silver lever on the top of the kirby (the one under the hood/light)

then turn the belt lever from off to on.

the G5 should have a light on the powerhead that comes on (green) if the belt is spinning the brushes. That will let you know if you've got it on correctly.
