WOW ! NO OS STATE AT ALL, is this the virus magnet XP?or Vista.
Circa 2005 , 12 long years old.... no spring chicken this... not at all.
most are in the land fill or sent to 3rd world as punishment...LOL.
best place to send is N.Korea this PC.

V5000 , ok that is first what is it.
WIFI yes, the pain of wifi, I use it as backup only, and only on CELL phones at home. we run gigalan at home and huge media server,
runs rock solid.
but wifi is a complex topic,not something that leads its self to text box, at all.
Router fine means other PC and cells all connect and work.
so its a PC issues. only only THIS PC.
but WAIT , (that comment on newer)
my guess is the router is wisely set to WPA1 /2 encrpytion (ONLY)
and then you bop in with a old Laptop hat is only WEP only or set to that only.
wep is not secure, so we dont use that TODAY. ever.

my wild guess, 2005 with XP right,?
the 3 years now dead OS, that HP nor MS support. at all
and known virus magnet, and over 700 exploits, (many not fixed)
facts, that.
for my next trick I will attempt to find what cards for wlan is there.
you never said, so will assume it's HP part, day one part.
not modified, as all can be.. see photo below for 1 matchup.

as you saw that XP wireless agent cant see your routers
broad cast, so that means , my guess is the your settings are wrong. or wrong driver loaded. (or bad card below)

if the router is set to WPA only and your agent (client app) is set to WEP
it can't see the WPA router. and for sure never connect .

why not look in your router first, see how its setup ?t.
mine is set to wpa+ (1 or 2)
but I could set it to accept WEP+WPA/1/2/ but id never do that.
ever,
i run wpa only. for security max.
so set your client to what you have your router set to.
it is that simple if drivers good. and XP not infected as ALL ARE.

this is what came new on it. (varies by exact model pc no t stated)
it does wep. and wpa
BCM94311mcgp , knowing what is there , IS EVERYTHING.
-> Routers fine
->Still could detect - bcm94311-wdyuj211224z2sqpp0an4hgj-5-0.jpg
MY GUESS , WRONG XP DRIVER LOADED OR CORRuPUTED.

It might be better if you just get a 25-100 foot eathernet cable so you do not have to mess with a second wirless network system a may be a eathernet switch box.

SOURCE: what do I need to make a wifi hot spot for my lap

In order to create an effective Wi-FI hotspot in your home or place of business you will need the following:

1.) A broadband internet connection, such as DSL or cable.

2.) A wireless router, Linksys makes a decent one but the brand is not really relevant for our purposes.

3.) Your laptop must have a wireless adapter on it. If it did not come with one, you can purchase one that will plug in to a USB port.

4.) That should do it, though configuring one can be tricky if you've never done it before. Post if you need some more help with it.

SOURCE: How can I setup my Linksys 54g v2.2, with my ZyXel 660r

First of all you need to set you modem router to bridge mode. go to this link will explaine in more detail
http://kb.earthlink.net/case.asp?articale=69205

remember to change the linksys router ip to 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 somthing different from the modem .
Hughes modems are all set to 192.168.0.1 so simply setting the linksys router to default 192.168.1.1
you need to change the linksys router IP to somthing different 192.168.0.1

Router frequently freezes when using with iPad although router signal is strong.

What about your phone? Does it work for the phone? If not, then you might need to check the internet connection. Sometimes the router shows strong signal but actually not connected to the Internet. If the Internet works for your phone, then check the wifi settings on your iPad. Select another channel if possible. Or reset the wireless setting and try again. If all fails, try to use this iPad on another wifi spot and see whether there is a problem with the wireless card with it.

Device has 5 bar conection on wifi on PC but won't connect to internet

I'm not exactly sure whether you are connected to the PC but can't see the internet or whether you are not connected to the PC. So I'll explain the difference and you can decide.

When you attempt to connect a device to a wifi network, the device will do a search for available networks. The networks in range will display, showing their SSDI (name), signal strength, and security status. This is not yet a connection, only a detection. To connect to the network, you need to select the one you wish to join and send a connection request. Unless the wifi network in question is a free hot-spot or is unsecured (neither a good idea to use), then the next thing that will come up is a passcode/security code popup. Here you must enter the passcode/security code that the wifi network is assigned in order to connect. Without it, you will not be able to connect or access the network or internet. There is also the issue of security type. Older routers and devices used a code system called WEP. Newer router use WPA/WPA2 encryption techniques. our device must support the security type the router is using or you will not be able to connect.

Router gives strong and weak signal in same place

If you think that your router signal is weak then you can follow the given points:

->Router positioning has an impact on the strength of a wireless signal. Brick walls and metal objects such as radiators, refrigerators and file cabinets can weaken a signal.

->Change the WiFi Channel

->Update firmware or drivers

->Reduce wireless interference

My compaq presario v2000 laptop cannot detect the wifi signal of Zyxel router. It can detect all other router brands. I'm sure that my Zyxel router is sending signal because I can detect it using my...

I would guess that all the other wireless routers are broadcasting using the G wireless standard 802.11g and your router is only broadcasting using the newer N 802.11n standard. Your laptop only supports B/G. Check your settings on your router and either change it to G or dual G/N mode so your older laptop can find the network

My touch hd could not connect to my home wifi although the connection is visible/detectied.

Even though it is visible and detected the signal strength may not be strong enough to establish a connection. Various factors affect connecting a device to the internet with a WiFi connection, including overall signal strength (G Routers are the weakest), distance from the wireless router to the console and obstacles such as walls and ceilings that interfere with the signal. If you're using a G router and you have your device is too far away or, has obstacles in the way, it will not connect. You should use an N-Router if there is a significant distance between the console and/or there are obstacles. Try connecting right next to the router and see what happens. Also, make sure you are putting in your router's WEP key in correctly.

One of my laptops connects fine, the other does

make sure that your laptops are using similar encryption types. If one is WAP, the other should be WAP also. But i suggest set both to WAP2... .then all of them should detect the signal that your wifi enabled router is broadcasting

LIMITED CONCT.

If you are using an intel wireless card (such as the default wirelesscard coming with Lenovo laptops) you can download an "Intel WirelessConnection Utility" from the following intel download centre atfollowing location. Select appropriate operating system and downloadtype as "Software Applications" to download the connection utility. Install it.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+WiFi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+PRO%2fWireless+3945ABG+Network+Connection&ProdId=2259&LineId=1784&FamilyId=1783

This tool from intel detects the available wifi networks and collectsthe authentication details and automatically connects when the networkdisconnects due to signal dropping.

You can think of changing the desktop/laptop network to "private"instead of "public" to avoid frequent signal dropping. Try to work froma place which is close to the router so tat the wifi signal is strong.
