There may be a bad connection in the CMOS battery housing. The battery should make an audible click when it's pressed into the CMOS housing on the motherboard. First, I would make sure that the motherboard BIOS has the latest version R2.1c found here:
Super Micro Computer Inc Products Motherboards Xeon Boards X7DA8

If you can't locate a bad CMOS terminal, you may need to RMA the motherboard. You can check the warranty status here:

How to replace cmos battery on satellite p105-s6217 laptop

Turn the laptop over and remove the battery pack.

From the bottom of the laptop, unscrew the plastic shells securing the slots for memory,

Bluetooth, hard drive and modem.

You may have to remove more than one screw for each shell. Keep all screws in a small container, away from the work area.

Remove the memory (RAM) modules, the hard drive and any optical drives (CD-ROM or DVD-ROM).

Press the clips on either end of the memory slot to raise the RAM module and detach by pulling it out. Work slowly and carefully, to prevent damage to RAM modules or the memory slot.

Do the same for all modules, if you have more than one.

Slide out the hard drive and optical drive. If the drives seem to be stuck, look for any screws you may have missed.

Turn the laptop over and insert a pointy tool under the thin strip at the top of the keyboard. Use the tool as a lever to pry the securing strip loose, while working with your finger to release latches along the length of the strip.

Remove the keyboard by undoing two screws securing it.

Raise the keyboard and disconnect its cables.

Close the laptop lid and turn it around, so that you are facing ports on the back.

Remove two screws from the metal plate around the ports.

Open the lid and remove a single screw securing the wireless card cover; the screw is under the keyboard, which you already removed.

Disconnect cables from the motherboard.

Access the board through the space created by removing the keyboard. Unplug the speaker cable from the motherboard by carefully pulling at its head.

Unscrew and remove Wi-Fi antennas, and detach the wireless card from the motherboard. Unplug thin, ribbon-like cables from the video card.

Detach the display assembly from the base of the laptop.

Loosen any attachments, and pull the casing toward you to detach the display assembly, including the LCD panel, from the base.

With the motherboard completely exposed, unscrew and remove the video card.

Undo two screws from either side of the hard drive housing and detach the drive.

Dismount the CPU heat sink and detach the fan cable from the motherboard by removing five screws.

You can now access the battery board with the CMOS battery attached to it.

Undo two screws to detach the battery board from the motherboard.

Disconnect two cables running from the battery board, and carefully raise the board to detach it.

Replace the CMOS battery by prying it open with a pointy tool. Insert a new battery and reassemble the laptop.

hope this helps

I have

Really? Wow!

1) Is the spring clip in the CMOS battery holder, weak, or has it been bent?

2) + of battery is facing UP, right? (Positive = + )
Don't know if it would even work in the other direction, but you learn something new everyday.

3) CMOS battery holder soldered tightly to the motherboard?

The motherboard mounts to a Support Plate.
The Support Plate can be part of the computer case, or a separate plate that is mounted to the computer case.

4) Is there dust in-between the Support Plate, and the motherboard?
You know, -> 'dust bunnies'.

Post back in a Comment.

Need cmos battery info

CMOS battery is a CR2032 (3V) button-style lithium battery. They are available practically anywhere and are inexpensive. The battery is located near the Southbridge Chipset in a clip-style battery holder. Use a small screwdriver to gently lift the battery out of the holder and replace it with the new one. Do this with the unit powered off, of course

Cmos battery has failed. How do I replace it?

If you remove the cover of your PC you will see a silver circle flat shape, similar to a coin that is the Cmos battery remove it then replace a new battery. Observe the battery holder some holder has small metal attach to the holder you just push the little metal attach to the holder and the battery will loosen up. But be sure to unplug the CPU to the main ac outlet. Or using a small screwdriver to slide back any clips and take out the battery.Note the numbers on the battery and get an identical replacement. You can usually find them cheaper online, but most specialty battery stores will have them as well. Good day and best regards.

I have the 7 in ch sylvania notebook and i forgot my password. How can I reset it?

Remove the CMOS Battery

Detach the CMOS battery from the metal holder. Some Gateway CMOS battery holders have tabs on both sides, while with others you can lift the battery out. Press down on the tabs and the battery will pop out. Wait two minutes, then push the battery back in. This will change the CMOS settings back to default and reset the Gateway BIOS password. Replace the panel and cords. Turn on the PC and enter the BIOS menu by pressing F2 repeatedly to create a new password. To bypass creating a BIOS password, boot to Windows normally.

Then everything will be just fine.

Thanks.

I have bought the correct battery for my 1993 jeep wrangler and now need to fit it but don't know how! Any help?

1. Place battery into battery holder and bolt on hold- down bracket.
2. Remove any protective covers that may be on the terminals of the new battery.
3. Clean the cable connectors and the battery terminals (sandpaper, perhaps).
4. Attach positive (red) cable to positive terminal on battery and tighten.
5. Attach negative (black) cable to negative terminal on battery and tighten.
6. Apply anti-corrosion material to battery terminals. (Vaseline can be used, but it melts too easily. High temperature bearing grease or anti-corrosion material expecially made for batteries is better.)
7. You should be ready to roll.

Check cmos error

Read this only if you are sure that you have replaced the correct type of battery & you have set the jumpers to the default locations.

It is not the problem with the battery or the charging problem (Actualy CMOS battery is not Recharable )..in most cases.

The problem is the battery holder in mainboard where we put the battery IN. eventualy or accidently these Pins from the Battery Holder are made loose or not contacted with the battery.i had the same problem and the solution was to adjust the Battery holder to seat the battery in proper way.

May be This helpe
