My throttle is very hard to twist and doesn`t return back. I`ve used lube on it and the spring looks good. This is just a switch no cable so whats making it so hard to twist, cheap construction? Would welcome any suggestions, thanks John Tomos throttle handle on 2002 voloci electric bike

    DID THIS CURE YOUR PROBLEM/?

  • Anonymous Aug 29, 2011

It helped alittle but I still have to turn the throttle backwards to turn it off . The throttle is not isolated by itself it also houses the front brakes ,a kill switch, headlight and taillight switch. this is on a 2002 Voloci electric bike and I`m unsure about replacement parts? Thanks John.P.S. I`d like to match new parts to the old and not mix it up.

Throttle is jammed on 09 heritage classic, won't return

From your description, the following is usually the cause:

Remove twist grip from end of handlebar, and apply a THIN coating of hi-temp grease to the handlebar end where the throttle sleeve rides.

Lube the throttle cables.

Check cable routing, making sure that there's no tight bends, and it's not hanging up, or pulling.

Check for weak/broken throttle return spring (if there i one)

2008 KTM 250 SX-F throttle sticks every twist

Yep, lube lube lube.
Take your throttle grip off and lube up your cables.
Check for quick return while it is apart.
Now make sure the grip is not rubbing (common problem), and just move it out till it is free, lube and tighten it back up in this position.
If that doesn't work check for worn out cables?
Good luck.

HOW TO CHANGE THROTTLE / IDLE CABLES ON 2001 FXDXT

To change the throttle cables, remove the air cleaner, filter, and backing plate to allow good access to the carburetor. Some bikes even require removing the fuel tank. Then loosen the throttle cable and idle cable adjusters and turn them to their shortest position giving you as much slack as possible.

Remove the two screws that hold the right handlebar switch housing halves together. Carefully seperate the halves and remove the cables from the throttle grip. Do not lose the cable ferrels. The cables should pull out of the bottom of the switch housing now. You may have to put some penetrating oil on the metal ends that are in the switch housing and work them around a bit. They have a little metal ring on them that expands once it's in the hole of the switch houseing. They can be very aggrevating to say the least.

With the grip ends loose, removing the carb ends is simple. Get some slack in the cable, align it with the slot in the carb and remove it. Do the same with the idle cable.

Installing the new cables are the exact reverse of removing the old ones. Remember, the idle cable is the one with the spring on the cable. If you purchased any cable other than a Harley cable, lube the cable with some "Dri-Slide". I always lube any cable (including Harley cables) that I install. Lube the inside of the throttle grip and the outside of the handlebar with white lithium grease. Lube the nylon part of the throttle grip with the same grease where the cables connect to it.

Once you get the cables on, it is very important that you get the cables adjusted correctly. Adjust the throttle cable first so that you have just a bit of slack in the cable. The throttle should open wide open and when shut, you should have a bit of slack in the cable. Then I like to adjust the idle cable tight enough so that I actually starts to compress the little spring on the cable at the carb end. Not much but just a bit of compression on the spring.

Once you're finished, make absolutely certain that your throttle control is working smoothly, freely, and will return to closed position when you let go of it. If it won't do this, it is unsafe. Work with it until you find the problem. Failure to do this job properly could cause throttle stickage and lead to serious injury or death. Make SURE you have the job done correctly before riding the bike.

Good Luck

How do I remove the carbs? the throttle does not return to closed position.

try not to remove the carbs if possible, as the intake rubbers get old and hard it is a battle to refit them. The throttle return problem may be the cable or twist grip, they run a second cable that closes the throttle.
You can get to the cables with some pointy pliers etc, but dissassemble the twist throttle first

If you must remove carbs, loosen all the clamps, loosen the air box bolts and it will move back a little bit, then apply some force to move the carbs from the rubbers, some spray lube will help, and remember they will need some persuasion to put back again, and fit all the rubbers correctly

I have a pontica sunfire and when I turned it on today the car just revved really loudly and I could't get it to stop except to turn the engine off

A guess would be a broken throttle return spring near the throttle body. (follow the hose from the air cleaner back toward the engine--where it ends is the throttle body). Look for a small twisted wire cable that operates when the throttle is stepped on and a spring is supposed to pull the cable back after you take your foot off of the gas..

Throttle sticking will not spring back to original position

g'day con Could be that gunk has built up between the twist grip and the handlebar . you will need to take it off and give it a good clean with crc or something similar.Otherwise you may find that the cable itself has frayed, these broken wires get jammed inside the protective steel wrap. This usually happens around the cable guides at the thottle or carburettor ends, pull the carb throttle slide, twist on the throttle and check for a smooth transition between open and closed. If it keeps sticking their is really no alternative to buy a new cable.CAUTION:Make sure you fix this before you ride,Otherwise you could end up in the back of a meat wagon(ambulance) and that's enough to make you CRY CON.....HeheheheHaaahaaa. regards....Flabbycat.
