It reads "No Disc"

I have had this DVD for six years. It has been great so far. I only got the "No Disc" messages when a DVD was dirty, so I cleaned it. Now all my DVD's don't play and it says "No Disc". I got a DVD cleaner from Fred Meyer and tried to use it but it also read "No Disc". It the DVD dead?

I have an emerson dvd/combo player and i have had it for at least six years. now i am receiving the error message "unable to read disc" for movies that i have purchased

Hello
Insert a head cleaning disc into it and play it for atleast two times. The fault is with Laser Pickup Unit [ the reading head]. If the fault is due to dust or fungus on its focussing lens, the cleaning disc will wipe it off. If this does not help you, there is no other way than replacing the Laser Pickup Unit with same type and number fitted now. OK.

When you try to play a DVD game on Xbox 360 it tries to play as a movie?

c on your Xbox 360 console, you may receive an error message. This article presents step-by-step guidance to help you determine whether your disc is playable.
SYMPTOMS When you try to play a disc, you may receive the following error message: Can’t read this DVD.
CAUSE The DVD or game disc may be dirty or damaged. Because the console cannot read the disc well, it may even mistake a game disc for a DVD and report this error. If this problem occurs with multiple discs, even clean and undamaged discs, there may be a problem with your Xbox 360 console.
Note If you receive a different error message, such as one of the following messages, the problem is a different problem:
Error message 1 Can't play DVD. Wrong region code. Error message 2 Can’t play DVD. Family settings restrict playback of this DVD. If you receive one of these error messages, see the corresponding Knowledge Base article: 907620 While attempting to play a standard DVD movie using your Xbox 360 console, you receive the error message: "Can't play DVD. Wrong region code" 908645 While attempting to play a DVD movie using your Xbox 360 console, you receive the error message: "Can’t play DVD. Family settings restrict playback of this DVD"
THINGS TO TRY Here are some things that you can do to try to fix the problem or to determine what caused it.
Determine whether the disc is dirty or damaged Discs that are smudged, scratched, or otherwise damaged cannot be read by the Xbox 360 console. You will want to examine the disc to see whether it has smudges, scratches, or other damage. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Examine the disc for dirt or damage: a. Pick up the disc by its edges. Do not touch the top or bottom surface. b. Examine the shiny side of the disc to make sure that the disc is clean and has no damage.
NoteScratches that follow the curve of the disc are very damaging and prevent a disc from being read. If your disc has even one of these kinds of scratches, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 2. If the disc is dirty, clean the disc by hand: • Use a soft, clean, dry, chemical-free cloth to clean the disc. • Lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward. 3. After you clean the disc, try to load it in the Xbox 360 console. If the disc still will not load or you receive the same error message, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 4. If the disc is damaged, do one of the following: • Because DVD discs are not game discs and the disc was damaged because of misuse of some type, such as not storing the disc in its case, the only thing that you can do is buy a new one. • If you feel that the disc was damaged by the Xbox 360 console in some way, please contact Xbox Customer Support. To do this, please visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.xbox.com/support/contact

Hello,
A common reason for dvd players to give you error messages like "bad disc", "incorrect disc", "disc not readable", etc is that the optical lens needs to be cleaned. Dust will build up over time and prevent the device from reading the discs properly. Discs that are dirty and have finger smudges or if the discs have scratches will also cause these errors. There are some common mechanical problems that will also cause disc reading problems which you can find in my tips and tricks, just click on the link to read more about them.
TRY THE FOLLOWING STEPS FIRST:
You can clean your dvd player two ways, manually or by using a dvd cleaning disc. The following link will provide you with detailed information for doing cleaning the optical lens. I would suggest that you use the cleaning disc because it is easier and much faster. You can also clean your dvd discs themselves using the information here.
I hope that this information helps you solve the problem and you get many more years of use from your device. I wish you all the best. Please let me know if you need further assistance and I will do my very best to help you.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

It's keep loading, say bad disc

Hello,
The main cause for dvd players to not be able to read the discs and give you error messages such as "bad disc", "disc not recognized", etc is due to the optical lens being dirty or the discs themselves are scratched or dirty. There are a few more things that can cause similar problems, but these are by far the most common.
There are two ways in which to clean the optical lens, either manually or by using a cleaning disc. Using a cleaning disc is much easier and faster. Cleaning one manually requires you to open and remove the cover and the lens can be difficult to get to.
The following links from my tips and tricks will give you more detailed information on how to use both methods of cleaning the optical lens. You can also review an easy way to clean your cds and dvds as well at the following link. I would also like to provide you with some additional information about common mechanical problems with dvd players in case you need future information about problems.

I hope this information helps solve the issue you are having with your dvd player. If you need further assistance please feel free to ask and I wish you well.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

I've had this DVD player for a while and haven't had many problems until now. Any kind of DVD I put in the player, it says it's loading for a while, and then comes up with the message "Wrong Disc", for...

Hello kpohl385,
Sorry to hear you are having some problems with your player, but hopefully I can help you solve the problem. The following are some common reasons why dvd players fail to read discs or give you error messages.

1. The discs are scratched or dirty. If you hold them up to the light and tilt them, you will be able to see smudges, finger prints, scratches, chips, etc. Since your player is not reading any disc (even new ones) this does not sound like the problem, but still needs to be considered.
2. The optical lens that reads the discs is dirty and needs to be cleaned. According to the description you have given of the problem, this sounds like the most likely source of the problem you are having.
Here is a example picture of what the optical lens looks like:
917d570.jpg
3. The spindle motor could malfunction which will cause the disc to not spin at all or spin erratically. If a disc will not spin properly the laser inside will not read the information on the disc.
4. The optical assembly has malfunctioned and the laser that reads the information is not working.

You can also read my tips and tricks section on the most common reasons why dvd players fail, which will provide you with more in depth descriptions, pictures, and information.

The easiest way to clean the optical lens of your player is by purchasing a dvd cleaning kit. You can purchase this kit at most stores that sell electronics such as Wal-mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. They are not expensive. You can also clean the optical lens manually and you will find information on how to do this here. I would also recommend you purchase a disc cleaning kit as well. This will help keep your dvd/cd discs in good working order and help remove dirt and scratches and they are also not expensive (this is totally optional) and can be purchased at the same type of stores I mentioned above. You can also clean your discs manually, but it will not really help with scratches. You can find step by step instructions here.

Here is a example picture of what a dvd cleaning kit looks like:

All dvd/cd devices eventually fail over time, but by far the most common problem is just a dirty optical lens or dirty or scratched disc.
Sorry for all the links, but if I posted all the pictures and instruction on here, it would look like a novel :-).

I sincerely hope that this solves the problem you are having. Please let me know if you need any further assistance and I will be more than happy to try and help you to the best of my abilities. I wish you all the best.

The PS2 console is giving message that disc cannot be read or sometimes no disc.

Try a dvd lens cleaner because it sounds like the lens may be dirty. Make sure to use a DVD lens cleaner not a CD lens cleaner. If that doesnt work you will probably have to get the lens replaced which since its sony and they've been around for years it should be rather cheap. Hope that helps you out!
