I replaced the cartridge of my hp psc 1401, copied the test page that was automatically printed, but now I can't print anything. Copying works OK. I don't get an error message or blinking lights on the printer, the documents just stay in the queue without anything happening. What can I do?!

I think it's that black cartridge!

The problem you've described is typically caused by one of the cartridges failing. Try removing the black cartridge and printing (not copying) a test page. If this prints at near normal speed the black cartridge is at fault and should be replaced. If the printer still prints slowly then put the black cartridge back in and remove the color cartridge, then print a page. Replacing the cartridge that causes the slow printing with a fresh cartridge will resolve the issue.

Cartridge calibration pending in your printer. Put printed align page in to scanner and scan it.. ensure that mono & color cartridge should be in good healthy condition..

THEN INSTALL THE PRINTER AGAIN.

1. If you need to change settings, click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on the software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
2. Select the appropriate options for the print job by using the features available in the Paper/Quality, Finishing, Effects, Basics, and Color tabs. (Color Tab should allow you to change from only Black printing)
   
3. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.

cartridge circuitry damaged, replace with new one

1. turn off / on the printer
2. press setup hold down and press options
3. press start color copy

worked for me on psc 2175

It is a cartridge problem. Solution for my hp 3645 (I have the same story as bb18, but different printer) was to remove color cartridge! 
The printer is fast now, of course it does not print in color :) (I`m waiting for a new color cartridge) Good luck,
