I recently purchased an Audiovox Clock Radio CR20 from the USA on a visit to that country. I am back in my home country India and started using the clock radio. I find that the clock is not keeping correct time from day one ( It goes slow by 10 to 15 minutes in one hour) . I have already inserted a 9 V battery in the slot and have also attached a converter/step down transformer to the Adapter power plug for converting the local voltage of 230 V @50 Hz to 120V@60 hz, which is the rated voltage of the instument.

The reason of your problem is that your local mains frequency is 50 Hz and when you use 230V to 120V converter, this simple device can not convert frequency only the voltage. Your clock is synchronized to the mains frequency which is 50 Hz instead of 60 Hz and the clock goes slowly. It is late (60-50)/60 ---> 10 minutes in every hour.
I am sorry but I think your problem can not be fixed. ( It would be possible to convert the frequency but the cost of this kind of device would be higher than the value of this Audiovox)

Thanks.

Something burnt inside the clock switched on once back in India. Now it does not work. Could you guide me as to what would be the possible issue now

USA has a standard house voltage of 120 volts @ 60 hz.
Many other countries use higher voltages and/or 50 hz.
If this is the case your clock got fried by high voltage.

RCA RP5435B SN.1A006J255A0594-Clock running slow

Most of the Radio clocks by RCA are meant to be used with 60Hz AC line. This problem will not go away unles you can get a custom built 60 Hz AC power supply, may prove to be too expensive for the clock.

Emerson Research Clock modelSmartSet

This problem is cause by the difference in the power delivery system in the USA(60HZ) and India (50HZ). The timing function for these type of Clock/Radios depends on the power delivery system. It works like a second hand in a clock or watch. With the (60HZ) you get the perfect match with the 60 seconds to a minute time intervals. In India this timing sequence is thrown off due to the power being only (50HZ). I will give you the information to contact the Emerson customer support web page and the customer support telephone number. They may have a way to make adjustment internally to compensate for the differences. The web page for customer support is[http://www.emersonradio.com/support.htm] The telephone number is 1-800-909-1240. You can call them between the hours of 8am and 4:30 pm Central Time USA. Go to the web site or Give them a call they might be able to help you. I hope this information helps you understand the problem you are having with the power differences and the timing of the Clock/Radio. Thank you for using Fix Ya and have a nice day!

Caller ID not working in India

I too purchased an Uniden phone for India. Everything except the caller ID works fine. The caller ID wont work as the technology used in India is different. Try purchasing a FSK to DTMF converter or a separate caller ID box.
