Just like crt tv units, plasma are old technology
besides that they use enormous amounts of power and are now a waste of time in repairing
If you leave it powered on , that is alright as the main destroyer of electronics is the constant on/off operation as the temp changes of the components is the problem
However knowing that it uses probably 100 times more power than a led unit, , you are having problems with it and knowing the price of parts , I would recommend considering a newer more economical unit of a quality brand

I purchased the TV using AMX card 18 month ago. They have an extended 1 year warranty on top of manufactory's. I just have this set repaired: replaced SD board, total charge is $550. I already file a claim and hope to get reimbursed soon.

Most people call this "The blinking light of death".(part went bad)
Your TV when into protection mode to prevent further damage.
The repair shop may cost over $100 for someone just to look at it.
Or if you know someone with electronic repair knowledge, they have a service manual at nodevice.com
Most replacement parts you can get a shopjimmy.com ( go there to just to get an idea of what the parts costs).
Good Luck

The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.
I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

Ya, you do have a repair issue, and the manufacturer will not come to your aid as far as covering any part of the repair. Sears has a repair service of their own where they will send someone to your home, but, once again, it will come out of your pocket. The repair will likely cost you at least $200 and that's if your only problem is the power supply and the one for your model isn't expensive. Otherwise, the repair could cost you more than the price of a new 42" LCD considering www.walmart.com has one starting at $578.
If you decide to purchase a new set instead of putting any money into one that's out of warranty, don't worry about name brand. The only things that really matter when purchasing one of these TVs is the quality of the picture, the quality of the manufacturers warranty, and the quality of the extended warranty you purchase regardless of the brand you buy. Because, and take it from someone who's been in the industry for more than a decade, every brand has break downs. There are hundreds of TV repair shops across the country that repair Sony, Samsung, and Philips, LCDs. That's because those brands have a lot of TVs that need fixing.
