I have a sharp fridge SJ-P49N-SL. A recent power outtage in the area lasted 8 hours. When the power came back on, the fridge seemed to be ok. But, after 5-6 hours of operation, the freezer is not cold enough, ice tray wouldn't even freeze, but the water in the tray is cool. Same thing in the fridge compartment, temp is cool, but not cold enough. I tried to set the freezer control knob at mid to high, but no difference. Freezer is cool, but not freezing cold. I can hear and feel the compressor running, it feels hot to the touch, and so do the back and the sides of the fridge exterior. The condensor coils are hidden by dust protector plate, so it is difficult to see if they are clean. But I am sure they are clean since the fridge is only 4 years old. What could be the problem?

check the condenser is not blocked with fluff, it is situated iether behind the lower front trim panel or in the back near the compressor depending on the exact model also ckeck the fan near the compressor in running freeley.

You more than likely need to replace the control cable between the upper and lower board. It comes as a kit with the upper board. You can also do a bypass test by unplugging your thermoster from the circuit board. The thermoster is the temperature control for the refrigerator nothing to do with the freezer.

Well I called a repaireman and it was a part in the freezer that controls the defrost. He fixed it and all is well.

The fan speed can be deceptive. That is why this problem is so hard to diagnose, when the fan starts to wear out the motor spins but not with enough force to circulate air thru the freezer and rrefrigerator. If you have the ability to swap out the fan motor then it should only cost you the price of the motor and components. Approx. $125.00 if you have the make and model you can go to appliancefactoryparts.com or appliancefactorypro.com to obtain motor and components, But if you have to get serviceman to replace fan it will cost you an hours labor also.

That sounds like the start relay is buzzing. Unplug and lets check the compressor to see how hot and if too hot to hold your hand on the top of compressor we need to leave it unplugged until we find out if the start relay, start capacitor, overload or if the condenser fan stops after running a short while. Sea Breeze
