Trying to figure out why i have to max out my 1978 miller big 20 to run 1/8th 7018 rod on both dials. I asked someone who said magneto is going out, but I wonder if he meant transformer or rectifier can you tell me what to check with my multimeter. I can tell you that the 120 volt a/c plug is only getting 60 volts with fine tune set to max too.

If your only getting 60 volts check engine rpm's and if that's good then i'd say your transformer is weak. Transformers can be tested with a multi meter however you need the manufacturers steps to do it.

SOURCE: electrical wiring for 120/208 service as opposed to 120/240 service

Your machine requires 208-240 volts to operate with each leg being about 120 volts. Move refrigerators are 120 volts so even though you have 20 amps you probably only have 120 volts.

You can go to the Bunn website (bunnomatic.com) click on Commercial then on Publications then Illustrated Parts and Service manuals and download the manual for your machine that shows how the wiring hooks up in the machine and the type of cord the machine requires to handle the voltage.

The plug you need must match the receptacle in the wall and there are numerous 220volt plugs and receptacles on the market. Don't get a dryer plug instead try for a twist lock as they are more reliable.

Miller 325 EFI welder motor won't start. seems like fuel delivery issues.

Likely fuel delivery i.e. low fuel pressure at the injectors.

Causes;
Low fuel
Fuel filter plugged
Fuel supply line plugged
Lift fuel pump - insufficient fuel supply
Fuel pump (lift or module) - internally plugged
Pressure regulator not functioning properly

Minimum module (injector) pump voltage is 7VDC measured at the pump. The unit requires a battery with sufficient charge to provide cranking current to the starter and feed the fuel pump (lift and/or module).

Once running, the charging system must provide sufficient current to maintain a battery voltage in excess of 13VDC. Less than 13VDC implies failing charging system and/or battery.

Lincoln gtx 250 weld does not lay down and smooth using 7018 motor runs fine ac plug fine .why want it produce better quality ma?hine has 17 hrs in it

It has been my experience the best flat welding rod is 7024. It is easy to use and forgiving of contact sticking. It has a heavy coating making it easier to keep a consistant gap between rod and workpiece. I always liked 7018 for vertical welding. I hope this helps you out.

Miller 300D I'm having issues striking an arc even when I have it turned up to 140. Or when welding the rod just sticks in the middle of a pass. Welding structural steel with 7018 1/8 Excalibur rod. Any...

The problem might be with your rods. It sometimes happen that the flux around te metal becomes soft if the rods were kept where there is a lot of moisture. If that is the case you can 'bake' the rods in the oven to dry it our. The flux must have a lower melting poit than the metal rod so that it can make a cup. The edges of the cup keep the rod away from the metal, allowing the arc to jump.
How do you 'strike' an arc? One method is to tick on the metal. A better method is to stike the rod over the metal like you stike a match. This action will give you the 'cup' that you need to start welding.
I hope it helps.

make sure you work area is clean and you have a good ground. ive welded with those machines and they are real touchy. just keep adjusting your amperage till its just right. once you get it tuned in they weld beautifully.

I just bought 15 cans unopened of atom 8018 c-1 What is it good for? Should I try to sell it? Thanks

#1: Atom arc rod is very good and expensive rod comparatively speaking. 8018 is similar to 7018. It is an all position rod but instead of 70,000 pound tensile strength , it has 80,000 pound tensile strength.7018 is commonly used in repairs or steel construction 8018 is used in appilcations where the need for a higher strength or stronger weld is called for . Usually when welding higher grade steel than A.-36 It can be used in place of 7018. 5/32 calls for 150+ amps. 1/8 is a more common size.Remember Atom arc is top of line but finding someone who will pay the difference or needs this rod may be hard to find.

JAMES B,

FIRST OF ALL THE 7018 WELDING ROD IS REALLY A DC REVERSE POLARITY ROD. IN THE PAST 7-10 YEARS AGO 7018 AC/DC RODS HIT THE MARKET. THEY WELD LIKE ****! YOU DID'NT SAY WHAT DIAMETER YOUR USING,BUT THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN USE THESE RODS IS TO HAVE A BIGGER MACHINE. THE AC225 JUST DOES'NT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO WELD IN THE AC MODE. WELDING WITH THIS ROD IN DC REV. IS ABOUT 150 AMPS FOR 1/8 DIA.AND ABOUT 110-120 AMPS FOR3/32 DIA. THIS ALSO DEPENDS ON THE BRAND OF MACHINE YOU HAVE. THE 6011-6014 RODS ARE MADE AC -DC,AND YES THEY RUN VERY NICE ON AC. HOPE THIS HELPS EWE OUT,I WAS A WELDER/FAB FOR 35 YEARS AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE! GOD BLESS AND GOD BYE.
