Magnavox H2080mw8 & APEX tv

I hooked up my new HDD & DVD player / recorder correctly to my surround sound (I disconnected the old DVD player and put in the coaxil cable and S Video cable). BUT, the manual that came with it doesn't tell me what setting to have the tv on to get the initial setting screen.
I've tried everything.
PLEASE help us. WE are three technologically challenged people.
Thanks!

SOURCE: Magnavox DV220mw9 won't record from Tv, hard to connect

check out this diagram, paying close attention to the audio video cable hookups.

assume the cable tv box represents the converter box

you are going to come out of the converter box audio and video outputs into the new magnavox dvd/vcr combo audio and video inputs.

Then out of the new magnavox dvd/vcr combo outputs to the inputs on the tv if it has such inputs. The TV will have to operate on the video input 1 or 2 if the tv has such a thing, use the remote for the tv to adjust the input signal to line in 1 or 2 depending on what it has.

If the tv has no coaxial input or audio video inputs then you might have to use an adapter, you can get these from radio shack.

You say it will not record from the tv, but in all actuality the dvd vcr combo is getting the signal from the converter box not the tv, do you understand what I mean here?

So the dvd vcr combo gets input from the converter box so you will have to set it to view signal from the line input you have plugged in from the converter box. line 1 or 2 or whatever the input is.

the tv will have to be set on the line input to view the signal from the dvd vcr combo.

That is as easy as I can put it. Study the diagram closely. You will see what I mean.

SOURCE: Would like to record from my tv to my magnavox dvd/vcr combo box

If I understand your request right, You do not have cable or satellite box.
You can not record from your TV. You use the TV as a monitor from the dvd/vcr combo box. What the box receives is what shows on the TV. So you will have to have a digital convertor hooked to the (antenna in) dvd/vcr combo box, (antenna out to the tv antenna in) Depending on the antenna you are using that is on the other end of your cable-in coax connection this will hook to your antenna in on the digital convertor box. If your cable is hooked up and operating correctly and directly to the tv that is digital ready you probabbly have a good picture. When the vhf/uhf signal was transmitted you could go from the dvd/vcr to the tv with no problem. But now that the signal is digital and the tv is set for digital the dvd/vcr will not pass a digital signal to the tv. Best suggestion, you have to get a digital dvd/vcr receiver. If you have more question please contact me.

We have a new TV, old surround sound, old dvd player & want to get Blu-ray player with component video output to work with our surround sound. Is this possible & Which Blu-ray player?

component video output is not going to help you hook it up to a surround system. component video is just that - video. No audio signal is carried on it. You would be better served hooking your blu-ray player to the tv via hdmi cable and then running an optical cable from either your blu-ray player or your tv to the surround system (assuming your surround system has an optical input).

I have surroundsound. I have dish network with hd dvr. I have a sony bravia hd tv. I have a dvd player, and cd player. I have a magnavox dvd recorder. I want to record from my dvr to my dvd recorder. ...

To get the functionality you're looking for you'll need to to take the cable running from your DVR output and connect it to the input on your DVD recorder. Next you want to connect a cable from your DVD recorder output and connect it to your TV. If this is an HD set up you want to use HD Cables for all of the connections.

Ineed a manual for a H2080MW8 DVD Recorder

The Magnavox H2080MW8 is actually manufactured by Funai; you can find the manual on their website at this link: http://www.funai.us/funai/support/index.html. Just click on "Owners Manual," type in your model number ("H2080MW8"), and search; the manual will pop up below as a *.pdf, so just right-click on it and choose "Save As..." to save it to your computer.
Good luck with that thing. I bought the same DVR last May (2008), and I'm currently on my 4th replacement from the manufacturer. When it's working, it's fine; nothing special to it, just a basic DVR. However, I've had all kinds of problems with my original and 3 replacement units screwing up recordings, failing to detect ANY channels (digital or analog), and refusing to open the DVD tray. Hooking up a magnavox MWD7006 DVD player to a APEX TV

honey and guest: connections: Red, white, and yellow composite from out of cable/sat box to in of this dvd, and then a 2nd red , white and yellow cable from out of this player to in on television. Every television calls the correct channel something different - make note of where you plug the r,y,w cables to TV -- it may be labelled video1, video 2, av1, av2, input1, ext 1, etc. Turn tv to correct input/av/source/video channel.
