Microwave heat level has changed. My mother is elderly and thinks the micro is broken because it started overheating everything. she isn't well and I wonder if she touched a button that would change the power intensity or is it broken. 30 second heating fries up food in 3 seconds.

SOURCE: microwave power level

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it free from GE/Hotpoint.

SOURCE: microwave not cooking food

Chances are you have a bad high voltage parts, such as the high voltage rectifier diode, a bad magnetron, a loose connection at the magnetron, or less likely, a bad high voltage transformer.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)

To order parts or find your nearest authorized servicer, please use the contact information in your owner's manual.

SOURCE: Samsung Microwave runs won't heat

Test the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

If it additionally does not spin and no light, then check also the door switch.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be alloweddischarge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even ifpower is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their twocontacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

Regarding parts, contact the seller here to purchase parts. (here in UK).

SOURCE: Samsung microwave doesn't heat food.

Microwave ovens that do not heat, and failed as you have described, have 1 or more of the following failed components, in order of cost -

1) Fuse
2) Diode
3) Capacitor
4) Transformer
5) Magnetron

4 and 5 are interchangeable when it comes to cost.

Try replacing 1 and 2, then 3, then it's decision time of whether to buy parts or replace the microwave.

How to fix loud hum and no heating in Sharp model R-308KW?

Hi,
There could be a variety of reasons why this happens, but the likeliest
reason is the secondary interlock or monitor switch is broken. These are micro switches that tell the microwave that the door is closed. If this switch is broken, then the microwave thinks the door is still open and the carousel table won't turn, and the oven will not heat up.
I replaced an interlock switch last Saturday. The switch was $7.00 and took me an hour.
Ask your local repair person to test the interlock and monitor switches first, then go from there.
Good luck,
Hank

MICRO DOES'NT HEAT

First, check to make sure that the door is closing and latching fully and that there is nothing jamming any of those mechanisms. There are safety devices that keep microwaves from turning on if they think the door is open/ajar.

If the door is fine and the rest of the functions (timer, etc.) are behaving, it's probably a busted magnetron. That's the part that actually emits the waves that do the heating. It's a part that can be replaced, but probably cheaper to get a new microwave.

JennAir Microwave works perfectly but won't quit running.

One or two of the micro switches have failed, you will need a professional to remedy the situation.

Microwave not starting

Even though your door switches appear to be fine, one of them is bad, most likely the top switch, so you need to check it.

Also try resting different resistors and capacitors on the circuit board and try to find out a square box near the transformer. There could be one pin that did not appear to be soldered correctly. If so cleaned the pin and resoldered the pin.

It may be needed for you to perform an RF leakage test. Most amateurs and even many professionals do not own an RF leakage meter. You can get one at appliance and electronic parts suppliers, costing from about $10.00 up to many hundreds of dollars for the certified models used at the professional level. You can find inexpensive RF detection devices at many retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Radio Shack.

If your microwave does not work at all and you know everything is plugged in properly and the outlet is functioning, then check your fuses and your door switch. If the internal fuse or thermal fuse is blown you will need a professional to help you replace it. You should also check the door hooks and the door release button. If they are broken, your microwave will not work.
If your microwave looks and sounds normal but isn't producing any heat, you should check the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry and the circuit board for problems. You will need a certified technician to help you make these repairs.
If you are unable to adjust the power level, there may be a defective triac or a problem with the circuit board. If the carousel inside your microwave won't turn when you run it, the small motor that operates it may be broken.
If the display flickers but it does not affect how the microwave heats, then you don't need to worry about it. But if you are having display flickering and it is affecting the way your microwave operates, you may have a more serious problem in the microwave cabinet.
If your microwave buzzes loudly and produces no heat you probably have a defective power diode, magnetron or high voltage capacitor. These are all things that can be replaced or repaired by a qualified technician.

Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

I have a amv6167bds and convection works but no micro

Check the door safety interlock switches ... tiny micro switches found near the latch mech inside the cabinet.

If they are faulty, the oven thinks the door is open and will not turn on the 'heat' in microwave mode.

Everything works but it will not heat food

Check the door safety interlock micro switches. Others will po9int to the very expensive magnetron and it might be that but I don't think so. Still others will tell you that it is the capacitor ... and it might be that. If you regularly open the door while the oven is operating, the tiny contacts become damaged from the arcing. When the interlock switches can not longer tell the oven the door is in fact closed, the magnetron will not come on .. and there will be no heat.

It is probably worth removing the cover to check the $2.99 micro switches ...

Make sense?

My microwave starts however food does not heat up.

Micro wave as the name suggests produces heat when the micro waves aimed at an object causes the water molecules inside the object to vibrate hence producing heat. The gadget responsible is the magnetron. If your magnetron is not receiving ht voltage or receiving but faulty, then your micro wave wont work please take precaution when opening micro wave due to high voltage caps that remain charged sometimes even when it is off.check the high voltage fuse/ diode and capacitor if they are fine and the step up trans former o.k then the only option is to replace the magnetron
