I have a HP Deskjet 6988 printer and need the software so I can clean the heads. Do you know where I can get those drivers?

The Windows 7 driver should be found by Windows Update when you connect the printer with a USB cable. If you are using the printer in a network, you need to manually add a printer (using the wizard) from the Printers and Devices Control Panel. Start this after you have the printer connected to your router or switch. See https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01796879 and expand the section for Wireless or Wired Connection (Windows 7, Vista).

There is very limited support for this model and none from HP. Windows 7 loaded a generic driver when you plugged in the usb cable. What you got is all you are going to get.
This is the pitfall of a new operating system and an older printer.

Is the printer software installed on the laptops? Are you trying to print from the laptop itself, or a phone or tablet?
Sounds like from what you said the devices are on the network, but they still need the correct software to communicate with each other.

Try to use a smartphone and install the HP mobile printing app, if that app is able to find your printer, it is indeed on the network correctly.

If you can print from the phone/tablet, but not the laptops, you need to install the software drivers for your printer to your laptop(s) you wish to print from.

your drivers and software probably dont support Win7 go to the hp website and download the latest drivers and software for your model and win7. download them install them then plug your printer into the usb port and it should find the new hardware and install the drivers for it

Hi there,

• Unplug the printer cable from the computer.
• Unistall the printer drivers from Device manager and also unistall the all the printer appications
• restart the computer
• Click Here to download drivers from the website
• after installing drivers and software it will ask you to connect the printer.
• then you can connect the printer and and try to Print the test page.

If you're on XP, download HP Deskjet Basic Feature Software/Driver and then install this software.

Next, go to the "Printers and Faxes" part of the XP control panel and add the printer. Unless the printer has its own server (very unlikely for home use), then even if it is installed on a wired or wireless network, you need to add it as a local printer (again this should be done even if you have it connected to your local network), then add the printer. You may need to add a new port for the networked printer.
