A few days ago, the rubber/plastic contact tip broke off and then the gun would no longer drive a nail. The rod that pushes the nail out of the gun seems to be slightly bent so that it pushes past the nail and will not drive it. The nose assembly that unlatches to clear jams seems to be working OK and it seems like it fits tight enough so that the drive rod could not go past the nail. Any ideas?

SOURCE: gun wont sink nail

sounds like safety needs adjusted you have bent the arm and it is thinking that the guard is not fully depressed and thus it vents air . adjust it with wrench or straighten arm. I have had this happen before- but in my case the adjuster backed off- same result -look in manual for adjusting as well - should be there or take to service -easy fix and should be cheap

SOURCE: nails keep jamming in the gun. how do you fix that

Not all nails are exactly to gauge, but if they measure about right (take one nail off strip and see if it fits snuggly into bottom of nose) most likely the problem is the driver; missing tip or bent. Remove head and pull out driver. If just the tip is broken you can grind it square again and if bent you could try to adjust. If not driver is available at dewalt service center and at www.toolpartsdirect.com Good luck

SOURCE: dc618 type1 gun works fine left right and shooting

Hi, it sounds like you need a new gasket and seal kit, and/or perhaps a new spring, also check that something may be blocking up the mechanism when held vertical? something isn't sealing, or jamming open when used like that. Sometimes a judicious drop of oil also may help, it's worth a try... also as usual check the pressure too....

For an FYI, i have given you a link above that may assist you in understanding it all.
My advice is to take the unit to a good Dewalt repair center, and get it serviced.

SOURCE: dc618 type1 gun works fine left right and shooting

Many nailers have this issue - and it is not your particular unit that has a unique issue handling upside down shooting.

If it has always performed like this - there is nothing that can be done - the issue is in the mechanics of the head. There aren't many situations a framing nailer is used in the upside down position.

There is also a recall on this unit having to do with the trigger mechanism:

Driver slides over the top of the nail bending it and jamming it. It will drive the 1st nail then jams.

Most jamming is caused by either wrong type of nail in gun or the driver blade tip is no longer square. Easy to check both. With nails removed strike nose of gun down against rubber mat or soft wood to move driver down for examination. It should look square. If edges look rounded or chipped, remove driver and use grinder to adjust. To check nails for good fit, lay a strip of nails on the magazine. Align the first nail with the center line of the path of the driver. The rest of the strip of nails should align with the angle of the rails on the magazine + or - 5 degrees ok but any more difference will cause jam. Good luck

I have a Hitachi NR83A3 framing nail gun. It won't drive nails flush. Adjusting the depth screw from one extreme to the other doesn't appear to help or change the driven nail depth. Any ideas?

Easy to check. Remove nails from gun and connect to air supply. Using hard rubber pad or soft wood depress and hold trigger and push nailer safety against pad and hold there. The gun will fire but the driver will stay down until you pull back on the gun and relieve pressure on the safety foot. With driver down examine the tip of the driver. It should look square and should extend about 1/4 inch or more past the nose. If tip is broken replace driver. If lots of air is leaking past the nose during test, also replace the lower bumper. Good luck

Nailer drives nails too deep

n80 coil nailer is a very powerful nailer used for hard wood. If the driver is setting nails too deep, adjust safety foot to the lowest level. Install safety foot no-mar boot to lift the gun even higher. If still too deep, most likely the lower bumper inside the gun is worn-out or cracked. Easy test. Remove nails and connect air supply. With trigger depressed, push and hold the gun against work (I use an old rubber hose tightly coiled up). This will fire the gun but keep the driver down allowing you to examine the tip of the driver. The driver should extend out past the nose less than quarter inch. If the driver is extending too far, most likely bumper is worn out. If a large quantity of air is leaking out the nose of gun during the test, indication that lower bumper is cracked. Good luck.

I have the 2 1/2 Hitachi for nailing siding. The nail gun had not been used for a couple of years, but now will only drive the nail half way in. Sounds like an air leak when driving the nail. I have...

Remove the nails and air supply. With side door open notice position of driver. Driver should be at top position with tip not visible. If driver is down and it moves within cylinder when you tilt nose up then down again, time to replace orings. If driver is down, it should extend past the nose about 1/4 inch (if driver is broken at the tip the end will look rough and nail will not drive in all the way). If driver extends past the nose more than 1/4 inch then lower bumper may be breaking up /cracked. Easy test for proper function. With nails removed and side door open, connect air to gun and dry fire gun against hard rubber or old coiled air-hose (with air connected and trigger depressed, no air should leak from trigger area, if air leaks when trigger is depressed, look for fault at trigger pin). Feeder should move back then forward in quick motion almost matching speed of driver and driver should not creep down between shots. No air should leak from nose of the gun (push nose against hard rubber and depress trigger and hold in this position, driver should stay down with very little or no air leaking out of nose, when you release trigger, driver will return). If air leaks out of nose while holding in this position, replace lower bumper. If a quantity of air leaks from valve in front of trigger, cylinder orings may need replacing or outer part of cylinder has fine scratches (remove scratches with 400 grit paper). When I go to shoot the nail, it won't sink the nail all the way. The head of the nail is still an inch or so out of the lumber. Also, when I push the safety against the nail, sometimes it won't shoot. I...

Remove the nails and dry fire the gun against thick rubber or coiled hose to absorb impact. Driver should be visable about 1/4 inch past the nose. If not visable then tip of driver may have been broken off. If driver length ok then time to reseal gun to regain full power. To solve irregular firing, replace the trigger valve (usually part# TVA6 ) and examing the trigger itself for worn contact surface or worn retainer roll pin. Hitachi nail gun,piston/nail push rod wont retract after pushing nail (stays protruding out of gun so the remaining nails stay underneath it

You have one or more worn o-rings in the head of the gun. They direct the air to the proper parts of the gun to first drive the nail then to return the driver to the top of the gun for the next nail. Depending on the manufacturer and your model number, some companies make kits to replace the o-rings (always replace all of them). For some companies you have to get a breakdown of the gun and order each o-ring seperately.

Don't know how to load staples in my powershot pro

Usually a black tab toward the back of the staple gun.
Push in, pull up and pull out.
Push rod, spring and assembly should slide out easily.
You can then reload as needed.

Push in, pull up and when the push rod bottoms out push down.
This usually locks the tab back in place. Do this a few times and you will get the feeling pretty quick.

Good luck!

Porter cable roofing gun

The problem that you describe could be caused by three things. First remove the cylinder and look for a black rubber band around the cylinder about med section. There is an indention with holes where it is supposed to be. The band should fit snuggly so that it does not slip off during use. Secondly, check that the piston oring/plastic ring holds the piston in the cylinder without just dropping under its own weight. Third, the upper bumper could have a crack or missing piece. Remove it and check. (vinyl part in headvalve) Parts are available at dewalt repair center or www.toolpartsdirect.com. enjoy
