"CPU fan stopped working" message,

  • Anonymous Mar 28, 2014

Starting to get bearing noise from the CPU fan, and am looking for a direct replacement fan. HP site doesn't help and my usual sources for fans doesn't have the CPU fan for this model HP Pavilion. I assume (bad boy) that I'm looking for a 70mm 12v 3-pin fan?

You can order a replacement fan from HP. Search for replace parts under your model computer when you go to HP's web site.

On power-up there was a "CPU overheated" message and now nothing works. Is there a high probability that the CPU is fried?

Quite possibly. You will need to remove the fan and heatsink from above the CPU to find out if it's just fried the CPU or cooked the motherboard (mobo) too!.

Replacing the CPU is not too hard, you'll need a little thermal paste, replacing the motherboard can be a pain unless you're techy.

Good luck

WHEN I TURN MY COMPUTER ON A ERROR MESSAGE COMES ON "CPU FAN TO LOW"

This message is a warning that the CPU cooling fan is no longer turning fast enough to adequately cool the CPU. You should not use your computer until the fan is replaced.or the CPU could be permanently damaged as a result of over-heating.

Unless you have replaced these fans before, I would advise you to have the fan replaced by a PC technician as it's pretty easy to damage the processor when removing/installing the fan.

When i boot up the laptop i get a message 'Main Fan Error' the fan runs on start up then stops just before i get the error message. Fan will not restart... Joseph

Hi,

This message means that the fan on your CPU (processor) is failing or has failed. This is not good because if the fan on the CPU fails your CPU will overheat and cause your machine to lock up and become non-functional till it cools down and then the same cycle will repeat till the fan is replaced.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Trying to find out what kind of fan is on my CPU, computer is a Istart C2389 by packard bell. Fan model is B7064NC made by AVC but cant find a replacement.

The manufacturer's site says the processor is a Pentium 4 socket 775. You don't need to look for the exact replacement part. Just order a socket 775 CPU cooler from any of the many online vendors and replace the one currently installed.

Cpu fan's

One of the best sources I've found is www.mwave.com. You can check out their fans at:

http://www.mwave.com/mwave/dosearch_v2.asp?scriteria=cooling%20fan&bop=and&bbp=and&catpromotename=%filename%client-url%

I've bought from them for years and always had good results. If nothing else, you can find the type fan you need and then try and find it locally.

Good luck, and please let me know how it works out!
