Why cant i hear any sound or music and the mute button (touchpad) is always orange instead of white like every other button, when i click the mute button , the computer mutes everything but when i click it again it says there is sound but i cant hear it, went to control panel and did not work check the sound icon and said it was ok. what else can i try, its a HP PAVILION DV5
This could be a simple driver glitch. Try uninstalling the audio drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find he sound card and reinstall the drivers automatically. Then go to HP's support site and check for any updated sound drivers or patches. If it's a glitch this will fix it. Keep in mind that it could also be a hardware problem with the mute switch, so if the driver procedure doesn't work, you might consider having it serviced.

I have a dv4-1125nr and I am having the same problem. Chat support is trying to force me to mail it in for service since the agents don't know what to do.
yeah i have the same thing going on right now. i just got my laptop yesterday and nothing liquid hasen't touched it or anything. im praying that i wont have to take it to get fixed so soon
I have the exact same problem - it happens sometimes when I put the computer on stand by!
