my lg envy keeps shutting off

  • Anonymous Dec 07, 2008

verizon won't help. ive tried multiple time. they gave me 3 phones and they still won't help

  • cyberdyver Dec 17, 2008

Keeps powering down...same as everyone, but I'll try the little paper trick. Then, I'm going to send LG a link to this page. Those #$$%!!#%#&ers!! Making a piece of **** phone that doesn't properly fit the battery.
    How unconscionable!!!!

  • cyberdyver Dec 17, 2008

Ok...I tried the paper thing and it seems to be working for the moment. I hope it works until my contract runs out with Verizon, so I can get a REAL phone...whoops...I mean an IPhone.

  • Anonymous Jan 02, 2009

I have 2 of these phones and I keep having the same problem with them both..they will just power off for no reason..batteies are tight and can't seem to find anything else wrong with them..keep in mind that the phones are only about 7 months old with no abuse..help

  • mom2alxnkt Feb 11, 2009

I've had the same problem with my phone shutting off randomly. I was originally blaming it on the fact that I keep the phone in my pocket most of the time, but I use this phone as my alarm clock and this morning my alarm didn't go off because my phone had shut off when it was NOT in my pocket, so at least now I know it's the phone and not something I'm doing. It's very frustrating. I've only had the phone for about a little over a month and it does not get abused at all. It looks as good as it did when I took it out of the box. I'm going to try the paper suggestion and hope that works.

  • Anonymous Mar 02, 2009

Just an update...I've been using the paper trick for a few months now and I've had zero problems. It never powers off anymore! BTW...the phone used to power off most often when inside my pocket as someone else mentioned the same problem.

Many thanks to the person who posted the paper fix!

  • bg_hennessy Mar 11, 2009

The phone does not power up all the way. All I get is the Verizon logo and it flashes once every few seconds. All of a sudden it just started doing that. Took it to Verizon and they said it was a software problem and give us 50 bucks to replace. Rip off.

Turns off in the middle of text messaging

  • lennyo643 Mar 12, 2009

I had my phone for almost 2 years before it started shutting off by itself. At first I thought it was the magnets in the case that was causing the problem but then I left the phone out of the case and it still shut off. I then took the phone to a Verizon store and they said the firmware was old and they tried to "flash" the phone with updated firmware. Instead it fried the phone. They (Verizon) gave me 2 options: 1.) upgrade to a different phone using my "Every Two Year" $50 discount, or 2.) they would give me a new LG enV VX9900 at no charge since it was their fault that the phone got fried. I opted for the free LG enV VX9900. I will wait and see if this one does the same thing.

I noticed that my enV mostly shuts off while in my pocket. I read the solution posed by nizzvark and wondered why it worked. I found that if I put pressure on the middle of the battery (aligned with the micro SD slot) that the phone would shut off. I could not duplicate this with a folded piece of paper between the battery and the phone. Thanks for the solution and I hope that it works long term!

I had the same problem, it is because the metal parts on the battery arent staying on the metal parts of the phone! All I did was fold a small piece of paper, and put it between the battery, and the phone. It makes the battery fit tighter, so it wiggles less, and causes the battery to have a tighter connection to the phone. Kind of ghetto, but it works!!! If this dosent work for you just make the paper a little fatter.

I posted the following solution to a similar question, (this would apply to those of you who know it is not your battery) our situation started out the same as "mom2alxnkt" above and then the horrible happened, so please "mom" take my advice; read on: "Please, please, please anyone who is having this problem, FIRST back-up all your pictures/videos that are on your phone, by either texting/emailing them or putting them on a MicroSD card. Next, contact Verizon & inform them of this. This is the 1st phase of a software problem, which, as Stevenleopol has found out the hard way, just like we did, later destroys your phone by just flashing the Verizon Wireless logo-it will never turn on again. Once this happens, ALL OF THE PHOTOS/VIDEOS/INFO on your phone is LOST FOREVER!!!! You can never get back into your phone! This just happened to my fiancee and we lost SOOOO many sentimental pictures & videos...we spoke with multiple techs at verizon and even called LG and they all said once this happens, the phone is dead. This same thing (the flashing verizon logo) had happened to me when we first got the phones almost 1 year ago and I was trying to initialize my brand new phone, and it had to get immediately sent back. These phones are not meant to shut off by themselves...it is a software problem, not a power problem...do not hesitate on backing up files & contacting verizon. You don't want to lose memories like we did, it sucks bad! Verizon will send you a "Certified Like New" phone in the same color, as long as they have one in stock. Good luck to everyone!"

You may all just have bad batteries, there could be a dead cell in them. Or if your charge port is messed up and you go to charge it, that will make it shut down. Go to verizon and tell them you want your battery tested.

Nizzvark..someone took a shot at you here. I used your idea on a phone that shut off once an hour and has made 2 days so far without turning off. Folded and put the piece of paper as you said and it worked.

Thanks for the cheap fix.
