You should be able to play most of the audio/video formats.

The KLite codec pack contains most of the codecs you'll ever need including the audio for .mkv files.

It's free from here If you use the advanced option on install you can select the codecs you require.

Windows and Media Player do not come with dvd playback functions by default. You will either have to purchase dvd software or you can also download Video Lan Client "VLC" to support playback. VLC is a free download.

Uninstall the media player,goto windows Market place and install windows media 11. its free and has all the new updates. Providing you have the correct system requirements. If not you can reinstall your old version at the same site and will probably have the required updates anyway.

It sounds like your computer doesn't have an MPEG-2 CODEC installed. Windows doesn't come with one on its own, you generally have to have something else installed, like a DVD player application WITH a DirectShow MPEG-2 filter. That's the usual reason for a video file playing audio-only... the video CODEC is missing.

You would think this would be on the disc that comes with the camcorder. Do they have any video player or editor of their own? Did you try it? 

Anyway, you can get a free (open source) DirectShow MPEG-2 filter here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gplmpgdec. Download and install this, and... assuming you're using a compatible version of Windows, you will probably be able to play back the video in Windows Media Player.

In the future, it's a good idea to indicate things like the computer OS you're using, version, the kinds of programs you're trying to use, etc. That will help folks like me pinpoint your specific issue.

The vidios recorded in mobile phones are of 3gp format. This is different format then using windows player. You have to install Nokia Multi Midia Convertor from PC suite cd into your PC. There are more players for playing 3gp format named MMConvertor Pro. You can easily download them from free webs or can mail me [email protected]
