My new casio fx-300ES calculator outputs answers as a fraction... how can i change the output to a decimal point?

To change a displayed result into a fraction, press the [S=D] key.
To force a result to be displayed as a decimal number before it is displayed, press [SHIF][=] instead of [=].

I tried to enable the change from fractions to decimals on a casio fx-83ES by pressing shift then mode then 2:LinelO but now i just get a tipped over L so im wondering how to revert the button with the 2...

Well, you cannot have them both at the same time. The calculator has two input/output modes: The MathIO and the LineIO (the old one). In MathIO you have textbook display. Expressions are entered and displayed as they appear in textbooks. In the LineIO mode expressions are entered on a single line (the old way).
You have to choose which one you want, because you cannot have them both enforced at the same time.

I suggest you use the natural display (textbook). After a result is displayed, you can press the [SD]
key and the result will be converted to a decimal number.
You can also press [SHIFT][=] instead of [=] to force the display to be in decimal format.

Cant get answers in decimal format, I would like to set up my casio fx83es so that the answer is in decimal format all the time.

Hello,
To make sure that results are always in decimal format, put a decimal mark (point) at the end of one integer.
ex: 1./2 or 1/2. or 1./2. display as 0.5, so does 1. + 1/2
To convert from decimal to fraction and from fraction to decimal press a b/c
To convert from proper to improper fractions use [SHIFT][d/c]
Hope it helps.

Problems with fractions on the Casio fx-115es

Hello,
To convert fractions to decimals or decimals to fractions, you use the [S<->D] key. Each time you press the key the result is displayed in the other format.
Alternatively, If you multiply or divide two integer numbers put a decimal mark at the end of one of the numbers (any one). The result will be displayed in decimal format.

Hope it helps.

Changing decimals to fractions

You can always convert a fraction to a decimal. The reverse may not always be possible. Look at the example on the screen capture.

You may be lucky and recover a fraction you have just converted into decimal format, but you cannot just write 0.333333333333 and expect the calculator to convert it to 1/3: The true fraction 1/3 has an infinite number of 3's after the decimal mark.
