How let Lexmark S305 only use black cartridge to print black. Now the color cartridges getting empty by only printing black, and with "only use black ink" selected. (Besides that, the cartridge can print much less pages than what it says on the package, not 500 pages but at most 100 text pages.) People say you can install some software for that, but I can't find it.

When any printer starts it goes through a cleaning stage it uses color ink and blank ink to purge the heads of dried ink this is done by sucking ink through heads doesnt matter about settings in windows this normal mechanical function of printers in general.

Please follow the steps below on how to print using black ink only on your Lexmark S305 printer:
For Windows:

  1. With your document/file open, click File.
  2. Click Print.
  3. Click Printing Preferences/ Properties.
  4. In the Lexmark S300 Series Printing Preferences window, select print using black ink only.
  5. Click OK to save the settings.
  6. Click Ok again to print your file.

For Mac operating system:
  1. With your document/file open, click File.
  2. Click Print.
  3. Expand the arrow pointing down beside printer name if you're not able to see other options for printing. Look for Quality and Media in a drop down box and select print in black and white.

If you wish to set this as your default print setting, please follow steps below:
For Windows:
  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Open Printers and Faxes.
  3. Right-click on Lexmark S300 Series print object and click on Properties.
  4. In the Lexmark S300 Series Properties window, go to Advanced tab. Click on Printing Defaults.
  5. Under Ink Use, select Print using black ink only. Click OK.

  2. Click Print.
  3. Expand the arrow pointing down beside printer name if you're not able to see other options for printing. Look for Quality and Media in a drop down box and select print in black and white.
  4. Save this as your default print setting. Click Presets option and choose Save as. You can personalize the name for this default print setting (e.g. Black and White Draft or My Setting).

Select this Preset name every time you print your files/documents.
Note: The 100 standard cartridges yield around 175 ISO Pages. You can also save on ink and stretch your ink investment if you use only 100XL high yield cartridges. These contain almost 3x as much ink as a standard cartridge for a small increment in price.

Above doesn't work. The "ink use" icons are greyed out when colour carts are low so lex ark seem to have blocked this. Another lost customer - for ever!

The Lexmark Impact S305 printer requires all the cartridges to have ink in them to continue printing - even if you're printing using black ink only. To print true black, you actually use some of the color ink.
Note: Leaving the color cartridge empty or dry isn't good for the printer. It can lead to poor print quality if you want to print color in the future.

I have a lexmark z2320 inkjet printer the colour cartridge is empty should it still print the black is full

I'm not a computer geek at all, but I find the color cartridges always run out first. Try to change your printer settings so it will only print in black and white and so uses the black cartridge and not the color one. If the the color cartridge is empty, the page will not print correctly. It may print some of the black color only.

Hi, the same occurs to me today, I went to Walmart in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico at night, I brough the Black cartridge for $18.00 I was really happy about it, I went to my home and install it, then say the same It can't print without mangenta and the others ****. WELL, but I still love lexmark so I realice a solution, it will be inminent to buy the others colors, but then do not use them, just keep them fulled; use only black, and then you will be able to change black only, since the colors will be always full. ALWAYS CHOICE PRINT IN BLACK AND WHIT. Hope you find this a little usefull. Go to: josiqvideos09 on youtube channel. Thanks.

I have a Lexmark x1100 Series printer and cannot print anything now. This printer has been working but it stopped printing. Do not have the CD.

Need more info. Any error messages? Did it just stop pumping ink on paper. Are you trying to print black text or color picture? If no error, your cartridges may be empty. If black text does not work, try color picture. Usually one cartridge goes empty and the other still has ink. If color pic prints replace black cartridge. If neither black or color prints at all, it may be a toasted printhead

If you need to reinstall the software, uninstall it, then go to lexmark.com and get new drivers from their site. RESTART COMPUTER! Reinstall from the downloaded file.

If all the above fail to make it work, it is hosed, shop for new printer.

Pixma MP610 - fab machine - only problem is that the large of the black cartridges empties - never uses the smaller one (No 5) why? It refuses to print if the No 8 is empty. What do I need to do please?

The large of the black cartridge (5) is for ordinary paper in printing menu of computer. Selecting photo paper uses only the small black cartridge (8) and the color cartridges are used to make black even for gray black printing. Choosing ordinary paper, you can print in black 10 even 20 times with the large black cartridge (5) (by refilling and quoted as empty) . You simply need to press a long time the hold button, as explained in the manual on the printer CD, to continue to print with an empty cartridge. (at least in Europe)
The color cartridges are slightly used even when printing only in black and become empty, even if you never use the colors!
