Volume Problem? I am new to the Pocket PC world and have a couple questions. Regardless of how many times I adjust the volume settings on my Axim I get no sound. I can't even get tap sounds on the screen when I enable that function. Also, when I tap the microphone icon on the screen, it flashes for a split second and then doesn't allow me to use the microphone function. I've had no problems with the ActiveSync. Am I missing something with the volume settings, or is it something with the Axim itself?

You say that your Settings; sounds and notifications, are all checked off, and volume slider is turned up. If you still don't have any sound from your speaker, plug in in your earphones and see if you hear anything. If so, you have a bad speaker or device problem. If you still don't hear anything with headphones, then ditto. Contact Tech Support for exchange.

Axim x30 won't come up

The Dell Axim X30 be soft reset by pressing the "Reset" button (from the stylus tip) on the rear of the unit, below the battery.

If the Dell logo in blue background lights up and then goes off again, its probably the brightness setting of your unit. Once the device has started up, just press and hold the jog wheel (the volume wheel above the headphone jack on the left side of the PDA) and press the UP directional key in the front bottom of the PDA. Every press of the up key should brighten up the screen a bit.

If the above solution does not work, you probably might need to hard reset your device.
WARNING: A "hard" reset wipes the RAM and returns the Pocket PC to its factory defaults. You might (mostly) lose all your data if you perform a hard reset. Do not hard-reset your device without having a backup of your data.

The procedures for hard resetting your ppc is given in a very detailed steps in the following page:

Alarms will not work

I had a similar experience with my X51v. I solved it by looking to 3rd party software. The best one I've used to date is a small program that comes from Japan called GSAlarmClock. Definately give it a try. You won't be dissapointed. You can pick it up free from PocketPCFreeware

Restoring Backup to New Axim

The backup utility included on your Dell Handheld will backup your data to a storage card. You can restore on your replacement handheld from that storage card. From your Host PC, you can go to Tools | Backup/Restore and do a backup to the Host PC, and you can then restore after syncing the replacement handheld for the first time.

Infrared Beaming Problem

My Axim is behaving the same way. I find that if I try to transfer something from my Palm IIIc to my Axim via infrared, it rarely sends the data immediately, and it often times out. I have found that I can often get it to work if I request the transfer on the Palm and then "stimulate" the Axim via tapping a menu selection or by momentarily blocking the view between the devices.

AXIM X5

To copy word documents, simply connect your device to your computer, click "Explorer" in ActiveSync, and then transfer the word document from your desktop to your Pocket PC. ActiveSync will do the conversion from Word to Pocket Word for you. As for wireless internet service, you need a wireless Compact Flash card and data service. Sprint is one of the few companies that offers this, and there is also the Pocket Spider from Enfora which can connect on some wireless networks.

Dell AXIM Screen

First, to dim/undim the screen, hold down the power button for a few seconds. A quick press will turn it on/off. Also, when dimmed, if you tap the screen, it should be fully lit. FYI...to change the brightness in either the plugged-in or battery mode, hold in the scroll dial on the left-hand side and press the navigation button (big round one on the front) either up (brighter) or down (dimmer). As for the time, tap Start >> Settings >> System (tab) >> Clock and see if your time is off by 12 hours.
