I have had my Axim X5 for four days and find that the record hardware button will not activate recording when it is pressed. I first open a new note and then press the record icon to bring up the sound recording toolbar at the bottom of the screen. If I tap on the round record button with the stylus the Axim starts recording. Instead if I press and hold the record hardware button down for a few seconds, nothing happens. I hear the button click when I depress it and I keep it held down for a few seconds.
I checked the button assignments and it is set for Record. When I change the assignment to launch a program such as Inbox or my calculator, then depressing the record hardware button launches the assigned application.
My conclusion: the record hardware button is not mechanicaly defective. The unit is capable of recording and playing back sound. So why doesn't the record hardware button activate the recording function
Try taking off the left black rubber stripping and see if the button underneath is lined up correctly. Perhaps take a look inside to see that all the contacts are good.

Usually to record a series the epg, electronic programme guide, needs to be open. Find the programme you want to record and highlight it using the navigation buttons on the remote.
Pressing the record button at this point will set the system to record the programme but if it is a series a window should open asking if you want to record the series.
There are usually two buttons coloured red. One red button will be in a line-up of four coloured buttons. The record button is generally the other one.
Having troubles with your Axim x51V? You can allow the device to perform a self diagnostic test that will make it run a series of tests (CPU test, LCD test, RAM test, Interactive Button test, Sound and Recording test, Touch Panel test)
To enter the diagnostic area, Press and hold POWER and RECORD while pressing the reset button on the back. Continue to hold the POWER and RECORD buttons while releasing the reset button and wait for the screen to show the diagnostic window. Select the envelope icon button to begin the test or press calendar icon to exit and reboot without testing.
The main terminal in the centre, which is labelled dell is the 5 way navigation button. And the small button which is to the immediate left of the navigation button is the four application button. and to the bottom right is the audio speaker. The button which is on the top of the device is the back-lit power button. Its charge status will be displayed. And now coming to the backside, above the battery slot cover is the main battery lock. Slide and hold the lock to unlock the position and remove the battery using the stylus. Stylus is located towards the side of the device. It can be used to go to the location where you want to go or you can type or write notes. now, on the other side( the side opposite to which stylus is present) secure digital card slot, scroll dial, voice record button and reset button are present. These are the functions of the terminals Hope this helped you :)Now start using the battery.
Dear, there is button for record, it is not functioning properly because it is not doing the right job, if you will try to fix it, there are great chances of future damage, because of the mini-circuit in this technology. I suggest you to visit repair shop for assistance, it would be better than fixing it yourself.
You must be using Outlook 2000. Outlook express will not work.
Select the "options" button on Activesync and verify that the items you wish to sync are checked.
on the side opposite the tape in each corner is a plastic tab. breaking out this tab disables the record function - it is called the "record lock" use a cassette with the tabs in place.
To access Recovery Mode: -Make sure the player is off (if necessary, hold down the power button for 20 seconds to turn it off) -Move the hold switch to ON (move to the right towards the record button). -Hold the record button. -Connect the player to the computer. -Keep holding the record button till the "new hardware is ready for use" comes up, then realease the record button.
Holding down the record button on these units turns the backlight on and off, since this is hardware controlled you should try this first.
If you've performed a hard reset and held down record then this is most likely a physical fault, check with Dell to find out your warranty status and find out about the availability of replacement parts.
Did you try to set the Backlight on in the control panel? (settings>system>brightness)
The brightness is often automatically set to 0.
If you did this already and it still doesn't work, probably try an email.
