I have a model 556 troy bilt 21" self propel mower. The control cable broke at the front end under the plastic cover. I have removed the cover and can feed the cable back through the sleeving but do not know where to attach it. Can someone help me? Do I need to replace the entire cable assy including the sleeving?

SOURCE: front wheels lock up when pull mower backwards

Typically self-propelled mowers are propelled using the front wheels, which only turn forward. Pulling the mower back while the front wheels are turning will damage the drive gears. It's best to raise the front wheels slightly off the ground before pulling back.

SOURCE: troy bilt mower self propelled 21". Belt has come off

Take the three screws out of the belt cover. One screw in behind each back wheel. The other is under the mower near the shaft to blade. Remove the tension spring off the transmission. Then remove blade and the cover comes off. You then can put the belt back on. Sounds like fun don't it!

SOURCE: where is the oil plug located on a troy bilt mower?

Tilt it over so the oil cap is on the bottom...it'll rest on the handle and hang there...put a container under the oil fill pipe...something shallow like a glad sandwich container works perfect...get a paper towel, and reach under an unscrew the cap...all the oil runs out into the container...it'll fit !!

Wipe the dipstick off clean, and put it aside...take this time to look at your blade on the other side...it "should look" similar to wood chisel at the last 5 inches of the blade on both ends followed by a wing under it...BTW: their $12 bucks new...and worth it !!

Go back and look at the container and be sure the oil is finished draining...take the lid for the container and snap it on and move it out of the way (no body likes an oil spill)...wipe off the oil fill spout, and re-fill...takes about a half a quart, so don't over fill it !!!

your done...

SOURCE: Lawn mower sounds like it is running fast and vibrating.

Sounds like a bent shaft, or bent blade.
Also sounds like the part that holds the blade to the shaft is sheared, and allowing the motor to run faster than it would if it is turning the blade properly.
Hope this helped,

TB210 Drive Engage Cable. Can not remove Front Cover.

Hi Chip, I too have a model 12AGA26E011 which has suddenly stopped being self propelled. I'm looking into how to remove the top cover so I can get to the belt and drive mechanism to determine what is amiss. If i have any luck I will let you know. obviously others that have posted here are stating the obvious but not answering your question. If you happen upon the solution please provide an update. Thanks! Doug

My troy built 210 6.75 hp mower self propelled mower doesnt pull

remove the front black plastic plate that is stamped self propelled and replace the wheel drive belt that attaches the engine pulley (above blade) to the transmission pulley (found under the cover). When you buy the belts, pick up two or three as I seem to go through a couple per season. Hopes this helps

How do you tighten the control cable on a Troy Bilt mower?

Usually near the end of the cable there is a squeeze clamp on the side of the cable. Losen the mounting screw (DO NOT remove it) and slide the cable in the direction that will expose more cable. Tighten the mounting screw and test the control. It is really pretty simple.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Can't find the oil drain plug on Troy Bilt with 5.5 Honda engine

You may want to look under the deck. They sometimes put them there. And if it is a self propelled, you will probably need to remove or loosen the plastic cover that protects the self propelled belt.

You are looking for a nickel sized plug that has a square peg. Use an extension piece for a socket set if you don't have the proper plug removal tool.

Troy bilt lawn mower. Will not engage self propell, front wheels

Hello:

Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine and the Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. The Mower Model Numbers are Usually Located Under the Seat on a Sticker on the Body of the Mower.
