Memory full

If you are using the memory that came in your camera, and you do not have an accessory SD memory card installed, your camera's built in memory will fill up quickly because it has a very small capacity. If you have an SD memory card, it may be a small card with limited capacity. SC and SDSC memory cards are available with 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 Gb capacity. Of course, the higher the capacity and the faster the card, the more you will pay. For most amateur applications 16 or 32 Gb should be sufficient. Optionally you could set your camera to take lower resolution pictures. That will increase the number of pictures your memory will accommodate, but there is a price; picture quality.

Memory card requires formatting error but won't format when select continue

Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards. It is often difficult to find out the maximum capacity a camera will use, as today's memory cards are much larger that those available when the manual for the camera was written.

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible

Can't format new memory card

Maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Just bought a used Pentax Optio 750Z online. Am trying to use 2GB San Disk Memory Card. Camera will not accept it. Monitor reads.."Memory Card Error". Is 2GB too much capacity? Is camera...

Is it a SDHC card? SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

You could try formatting the card. There is a function in the camera menus to do this. If it won't format then it may simply be too high capacity. It is often difficult to find out the maximum capacity a camera will use, as today's memory cards are much larger that those available when the manuals for even recent cameras were written.

Why is my new memory did not work with my unit

In the lack of any information about the new memory card, I can only guess that you have obtained a high-capacity card that is too advanced for your camera. There is a difference between SD cards and SDHC (for high capacity) cards. The latter are not backwards compatible with earlier cameras, and some cameras can't recognize a memory card larger than a certain capacity even if it is an SD type.

Is a SDHC Memory Card 4GB compatible with my Canon Powershot SD600 camera?

Your camera will accept a maximum SD card capacity of 2GB. It simply isn't capable of handling anything of a larger capacity and in particular is incompatible with the more technically advanced SDHC cards.

Your fix is to either replace your camera with a later model or to stick to using SD cards with a maximum 2GB capacity.

Got new olympus memory card, keeps saying card error

Is the memory card the correct capacity? Is it too "big"? ie is it say a 8 gig and maybe your camera only supports 4 gig? I had that problem with my camera-I had bought a memory card which was too high in capacity for it. Check your user manual for the cards and capacity you can use.
