I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD and ever since ive had the truck ive had trailer light problems. The problem I have is I dont have running lights and the right side brake and turn signal do not work. I have replaced the fuses for this but the second I replace the fuse and turn on the turn signal or hit the brake it blows the fuse and If i flip the 7 pin connector around I wont have running lights or the left side turn signal or brake but will have the right side. If i replace the fuse and check the voltages to the pins without a trailer on everything is there correctly and will not blow the fuse the secound I hook the trailer up and turn on the turn signal or hit the brake it blows the fuse I know its not the trailer because It works fine hooked to other trucks. Been trying to figure this out now forever please help!

It seems you have electrical wiring problems. if the fuse continues to blow even though all the connections are properly connected, it simply means that there is a 'live' wire that is being touched by a 'ground' wire.

live wire is the wire connected to the positive(+) terminal of your battery. ground wire is the one connected to the negative(-) terminal. the whole body of your truck is connected to the negative terminal, thus the term body ground.

have an electrician trace your wiring connection.

some common causes of faulty wiring are:
1. extreme heat that can melt the insulators of your wiring
2. water that comes in contact with your wiring
3. rats/rodents that eats everything including wirings =)

Check the plug wiring again on the truck. You have a wire crossed , when you hit the lights and it only blows with the trailer, then there is a crossed wire on the truck. What seems to be happening is your sending power to the ground for the trailer. You can check the trailers ground with an ohm meter, then make sure your truck ground matches that pin. You may know this , but green rght turn, yellow is left turn, brown is parking lights, black is brake lights, and white is ground.

Tail and marker lights not working on trailer circuit, stop and turn signals work fine, 2004 gmc sierra 2500 hd

I would try hooking the trailer up to another vehicle and see if everything works right if everything works on the trailer I would start testing the trailer plug on your truck could be a wire has broken.

Im hooked up to a trailer, I have blinkers and brakes, but no hot for running lights, or constant hot wire at the plug. Ive used a test light and cant find a hot wire under the truck at the plug

All late model gms have a seperate fuse for trailer lights in the under hood fuse box. Your truck running lights will still work but no trailer lights

2006 GMC Sierra The trailer park lights won't come on

Suspect 7 pin connector problem , you should have power on the 8pm positioned and the centre pin position as you look into the socket (on vehicle. These pins are both male pins as you look at them . If ok check trailer wiring where it splits for either lamp assy ! Good luck

My trailer wiring on my 2001 gmc sierra works i just dont have brake lights. all the lights on the truck work. its a 7 pin factory install ive never had problems until now. ive checkd all the fuses and...

First replace the trailer light brake/turn signal fuses. I have seen where the fuse will show good, but loose connection in the block. You can easily do it by using the flashers. Using a test light you can check power in and out of the fuse. Just touch the tester to the metal pin on top of the fuse... on both sides. Power in and power out. If power is there on both sides and still nothing below the fuse box, the box is bad. Not a common problem. Also check http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx.

Trailer brakes lights dont work on my 2001 gmc 2500hd

Do you have brake lights on truck? Is this a new hook-up or has it been hooked up before & worked fine? If your brake lights on truck are one color (red) and your turn signals are another (amber) you will need to buy & connect a small converter that goes in harness to plug in order to separate the 2. Instructions with converter are pretty simple.
