SOURCE: brand new vivitar 5018 keeps showing insert memory

Vivitar cameras are known for there inability to function normaly. Alot of these and many more problems I have encountered are manufacturer problems and can not be fixed on your own. the best thing to do would be to contact Vivitar and see if they can give you a refund or replace it. it is best to call but as I do not know the number here is a link to their website. I hope this helps -Richard www.vivitar.com

The card appears to be defective. Replace the card.

There is a small chance if some crud on the contacts, but sounds like you have removed and inserted a few times.

Return it to where you bought it.. for exchange or refund.
You could try to format the card in a PC, but even that sounds unlikely by your description.
If you can see the card in the PC there is SoftWare that can try to recover defective pics from card.
But if you can not "see" the card in a PC, the SW is a waste of time.

If your camera can indeed use a 4GB card (your manual will tell you if it can), to format it, simply go into the menu and find "format"and follow the on-screen instructions.

I have a Conon Powershot S1 IS camera and bought a Transcend Compact Flash 4GB memory card and when I insert in into the camera a red light flashes at the menu and set buttons?

Have your new memory card inserted into your PC to test for any virus. Format the memory car.
Please check if your cannon is adaptive to the 4GB (check the instruction manual) if the card shows the same fault now after inserting.
Use another card into the camera to confirm if the card slot is faulty.

If it says up to 8gb on your vivitar instructions what does that mean

It means that memory cards of sizes up to 8GB will work with this camera. 8GB, 4GB, 2GB, 1GB, 512MB, etc. Such cards will work. 16GB and 32GB cards will not work.

My microchip does not appear to be working with my cell phone

If you have card reader in you PC, try to connect it to PC, need the adapter came with microchip when u bought it, since it's too small to fit in card reader.
If it works on PC means SGH-T469 doesn't support 4gb microchip

I haven't heard of anyone having this problem, and they're all using 4gb Scandisk cards, so...I would suspect that the card is bad. Try to get it exchanged, but first try an older, card you used before, to make sure the camera is ok as far as detecting a card. Hope this helps.

It can use MMC cards or SD cards or SDHC cards up to 8GB in size.

SD cards top out at 2GB. 4GB and larger cards are technically SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards.
