Tip & How-To about Cooktops

GAS KITCHEN APPLIANCE CLICKING SOUND

Good Day,

Have you ever had that problem with your Gas Hob, Stove or Cooktop where you hear a clicking the whole time, coming from the ignition switches? Well, then today I will show you how to resolve the problem.

Why does this happen? Moisture on the ignition switches... Be it because of you cleaning it obsessively or, because you might have had a small water spillage - the causes could be quite a few things related to water.

Now for the solution (Please note: I will be using a General Electric Stove & Hotpoint Hob as demonstration, but this solution should work for most ranges - if not all)

Step 1 (Safety first)

Turn the machine off, switch it off at the mains if it is powered by it, and if powered by another source - Turn this off!

Step 2

Remove the knobs of the Hob/Stove:

If they do not come out, try to pull them as far out as possible, without breaking them. If there is a seal beneath them, then take it off as well - in the case if the knob does not come off, leave them be... If any grime or fat deposits are present, remove them with a damp cloth and some toothpicks.

Step 3

Get a hairdryer, or fan.

If using the hairdryer: Dry each knob area for 3 to 5 minutes for each knob respectively.

If using a fan: Put the fan facing all the knobs, and leave it there for 30 minutes.

Step 4

Leave the oven for about 20 minutes, and then re-attach the knobs and seals and re-connect it to power.

TEST, and viola! The problem is fixed.

I have attached a video to this Tip, that shows a complete yet simple solution to this problem (Kindly provided by General Electric):

Now you can use your Hob/Cooktop/Stove with no more annoying clicking sounds.

I hope this Tip has helped you, if it did - Please rate it.

Kind Regards

viking cooktop gas unit ignition clicks on all burners when I use

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.
