My eReader shows "DO NOT DISCONNECT"

Hi Jimswings,This just indicates that the ebook reader is still authorized to the previous user. Luckily, you are able to de-authorize it so it will erase all of the previous user's information and you'll be able to authorize it for your use. I've provided the steps below to de-authorize - hope this helps (this is done via the Sony eReader Store when connected via USB). Once complete, you can then go through the steps of authorizing your reader to you and transfer books!

To de-authorize the Reader device If you provide the Reader device to another person, you need to de-authorize it from your account.

1. Turn on the Reader device, then connect the Reader device to your computer using the supplied USB cable. "Reader" appears in the Source view.
   
2. Click "eBook Store" in the Source view. The View area is switched to the Store view.
   
3. Click "My Account," then follow the store instructions to de-authorize the Reader device.

The "USB mode" and "Connecting to Mass Storage" message will get displayed when the Camera is connected to the Computer and is recognized by the Computer as a Mass Storage device. This is not an error message and is a normal operation.
You can change the Mass Storage settings in the Camera (depends on the model) The USB Select or USB Connect option in the Camera can be changed to PTP, Mass Storage or PictBridge mode. Set the option in the Camera to PTP and connect it to the Computer and check if the Computer is recognizing the connection. Once the computer is recognized, it appear as a removable Drive.
You can transfer the images from the Camera to the Computer from the Removable Drive by copying and pasting.

If you're using the Windows Operating System, the issue may be caused by the Data Execution Prevention feature in the Windows Operating System or if certain folders used by the Reader Library Software are corrupt. Please click on the below link and select the desired Operating System to get the troubleshooting steps.
If the issue persists, uninstall the Software and restart the Computer.
Next, disable all the active Software's (Firewall, Anti-virus, etc) in the Computer and reinstall the Software.
Also, please ensure to check the "Launch Software" at the end of the installation. This should resolve the issue.
If you're using the Macintosh Computer, uninstall the Software as per the below mentioned steps:
First, click "Go" and then click "Applications" in the Main menu.
Next, in the "Applications" folder, in the right pane, double-click on the "Utilities" folder.
Then, in the "Utilities" folder, double-click "Terminal".Now, in the "Terminal" text window, type "sudo /Library/ebookLibrary/uninstall-ReaderLibrary.sh". There is a required space between sudo and /.
Next, please press "ENTER" on the keyboard. A confirmation message will appear. Please enter your Password or leave blank if you do not have a user account password.
After the Password has been entered or left blank for no password, press ENTER. You will receive the message that the Reader Library Uninstall is finished.
Now, please click "Terminal" and then "Quit Terminal" to exit the Terminal application in the Menu.
Finally, close all other open windows.
Now, restart the Computer and reinstall it.

Note: Ensure that the Reader is not connected to the Computer while performing any of the above mentioned steps for Windows/Macintosh Computer.

The circle with a line through the Reader and the message that says "Do not disconnect" will appear on the Reader while it will be connected to the Computer. This is a normal operation. And the Reader requires to be connected at least 4 hours to get it fully charged. Please keep connecting the Reader at least 4 houtrs to get it fully charged.

In order to authorize the Reader wit the Mac Computer, the Reader should be deauthorized from the other Computer. In order to deauthorize the Reader from the other Computer, the Reader should be connected to the Computer. However, when you will connect the Reader to the Mac Computer, it will prompt to deauthorize the Reader from the old Computer and authorize it with the Mac Computer (provided you have installed the Reader Library Software). If you didn't install the Reader Library Software, you can download it from the link: http://ebookstore.sony.com/download/ .. That should resolve the issue.
