Tip & How-To about Cameras
Many times people
do not realize that a SD card can be write protected or locked. They
will try to download pictures or make changes to the pictures and the
SD card will not allow them to do it. The little lock feature on the
side of the card will write protect the SD card so that changes cannot
be made. You will need to unlock the SD card to be able to make the
changes that you want to make or download anything from it.
To allow the SD card
to be accessed is a simple as sliding a small tab on the side of the
card to the unlocked position. Usually this means sliding the tab
towards the back of the card and away from the front of the card. The
card will have to be removed from the camera or PC to be able to do
this.
Here is a picture
of an SD Card and you can see the tab on the side of the card. It
clearly shows you what is the locked and unlocked positions on the
card.
This feature can
be very useful to make sure that you do not inadvertently erase data
or pictures from the card. If you have children viewing pictures on
the SD Card make sure to lock it before allowing them to play around
to make sure that they do not erase your pictures.
As you can see
this is a very good feature to have and it will be very useful to
you, but you do need to remember to unlock it before trying to make
changes to the card.
