Tip & How-To about Dishwashers

Dehumidifier Problem It shows Bucket Full

There are many questions about dehumidifiers that do not start. Many times the reason they do not start can be found in a little switch know as the bucket full switch, water level switch, float switch and I’m sure many others names.

The switches in what ever form they take area a safety type switch. Their function is to turn off the dehumidification unit if the bucket gets full and is about to run over. It also prevents the dehumidifier from running without the bucket seated properly in place.

The problem is that these switches takes a lot of abuse when the bucket is removed and dumped many, many, times. The removal and reinsertion of the bucket can break or bend the switches. Float switches also are fragile and to not take being banged around also.

If you have a dehumidifier that will not run, then check out the switch(es) at the bucket. If it is just a simple bucket full switch, you may be able to just hold it up by hand to see if the machine will start to work. If it still does not work, then the switch may need to be replaced. Float switches also can be manually tripped in some cases.

The most frustrating part is that many times on newer dehumidifiers the compressor is on a time delay. This means that the compressor may not start up immediately when the switch is pressed, or makes contact. Wait a few minutes for the machine to start before saying that something is no good.

For some switches if they get bent, you can just re adjust the switch by rebending the tab to the position that will cause it to be on. Float switches can get dirty and will need to be washed thoroughly to get them to move freely so that the presence of water will cause them to switch the dehumidifier off.

Finally, some dehumidification machines have a sensor in or near the bucket that senses if the water level gets too high and will shut down the whole machine. Most of the time if this sensor goes bad, the whole board and the sensor will need to be replaced.

There are many different types of dehumidification units and it is impossible to cover all the possibilities in just one article. This should however, cover most of the situations that you will encounter. Use some patience and detective work to figure out what is causing your dehumidifier not to work or start.

the dehumidifier wont work even the lights was on and it show Lo all the times and we do not know why it happen and how can we get it fixed as we live in Oshawa, Ontario?

I found this on the web

Q - Will my dehumidifier work in a cold room ?

A - A dehumidifier will not operate satisfactory in a room that is below 65 degrees F. At this temperature it will become necessary to operate the dehumidifying coil below freezing temperatures in order to reduce the relative humidity to a reasonable valve. Frost on coils usually will appear.

I would imaging that the humidity is already lower than the dehumidifier could get it down to. that's why it reads "Lo" on the display.

upon start up the full bucket light goes on even though I have a hose connected

make sure the hose connection did not work loose. If it did, water will slowly drip and fill up the bucket over time. If you know the bucket is empty, try readjusting it- it may just be cocked a little bit and this will affect the switch.

Compressor is not working

Try gently tapping the compressor a few times -use a wooden stick or similar to avoid damage -sometimes that is all that's needed. There are however many other possible reasons for a compressor not to start - most have their own fuse/controller assembly (sometimes this is very obvious inside the case, often a car spade type fuse which is worth checking visually), and there are cut-outs that will stop the compressor if it is low on gas, although usually it will start first for a few seconds if this is the case. Sorry, but the (www.maytagair.com) website is down at the moment, but try it again later and you should find their troubleshooting and support is good. Hope this helps :)
