Tip & How-To about Kenmore 3.8 cu. ft. HE3 Front Load Washer

How To Manually Unlock A Front loader Kenmore HE3 Washer

Hi there. This topic addresses the dreaded failed locking mechanism issue in most front-loader units. During long term usage, the door locking mechanisms will depreciate, over time. This will cause the mechanism to fail. When this occurs, the unit may become unstable, thus, preventing the user from removing the loaded garments. This state will suspend the locking mechanism. The door will, essentially, become stuck in the locked position. In an ordinary situation like this, most users will panic. I will instruct you on how to release the door, when this type of failure occurs. The manual unlocking procedure will allow you to release the door, so that you will be able to remove your loaded garments. You will also find a stored tech sheet, which will describe all the trouble codes needed, during diagnosis procedures in the future.

Be sure to use caution when performing this procedure.

First, you must unplug the machine. Next, remove the lower front panel. You will need a star-head driver, which you can get at your local hardware store. It requires a small screw driver. I used an interchangeable handle with swappable parts to match the right size head. You can find my set at Lowe's, or home depot, as well.

The three star-head screws are located along the bottom of the panel. If the washer is sitting on the optional pedestal, be sure to pull the drawer out before proceeding. Then unscrew each of the screws and place them in a plastic bag. This will insure that the screws are not misplaced.

The front panel is now attached by pressure to the rest of the washer. This is achieved by retaining clips. You may use a slim tool to pry open the panel. Cover the end with a thin paper towel to avoid scratching the paint on the washer, or duct tape. Insert the thin end low in the gap between the washer and the panel, and gently twist until the side pops off. Do both sides of the front panel.

Now, once the panel has been removed, look to the right on the side of the inner wall of the washer. There you will find the lost manual pages intended to help the tech interpret error code and fix conditions. It also contains instructions on how to manually unlock the door. I would advise to store the tech sheet with the actual manual that was shipped with your unit. this is where the sheet belongs, don't you agree?

Once you have complete access to the inside of your unit, Look up in the inside where the latch for the door closes. You will see a small plastic black box. Pull the bottom end straight down. Then, open the door.

NOTE_ This procedure is valid for most whirlpool duet units, as well. Use caution when performing this procedure. Always unplug the unit before dissembling the structure. Have a great day:)

maytag front loader 2000 series code LF followed instructions in manual and has no power. Outlet works

Hi, is this a new washing machine? If not, then these Maytag front loading washing machines use a paraffin locking switch in the front panel to lock the door during operation. Now, if the switch has gone south and trip the the lock switch without locking the door. Then the washing machine want turn on.

What is a parfin locking switch work is a small container with paraffin (wax) in it with a heater. When the washing machine is turn on. The control board indicate that the machine is in operation and a small amount of current is applied to the paraffin switch to the heating element. This make the parfin to expand trip the locking mechanism and locking door during operation. Keep the door lock from accidental openings. It will take about 4 minute after the washing machine has quite it running operation to open the front loader door. The paraffin needs to cool down to release the locking mechanism. stewbison

i get an error of f 29 and my door won't unlock

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. F29 is a door unlock error, this error occurs after the washer has made 6 attempts to unlock the door. Usually this occurs when the door lock mechanism is broken and/or the door switch/unit lock has failed. To resolve this issue you’ll need to check the door switch, door lock mechanism and the wire harness between the central control unit & door switch, replace the part that has gone bad. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

my washer is not locking the door it sounds two clicks and is showing the leter in scream DE what is that means

HI. This is a Door Open error code.

Here are 4 reasons for this issue:

* The Door may not be all the way closed
* Loose electrical connections at door switch and pwb assembly.
* Door switch assembly is out of order
* Gasket on door may be creased in

Ok. You have stated that the unit is attempting to lock the door, but it is not locking. There are two click, then the error code illuminates the DE code. This is common when the control cannot initiate a door lock sequence. The cause will be a failed door lock mechanism, and it will require you to replace this mechanism asap, if possible. The actuator has failed. Replacing the door switch mechanism, will correct this issue.

wont't start dl f on display

HI. this is a Door lock error. Check the following to address this issue. Normally you will need to replace the door lock assembly in this case but, it is not uncommon for it to be just a simple loose wire harness as well.

Potential Causes

• Door Lock Mechanism broken or removed from the Door
• Check Door Lock/Switch Assembly
• Check the wire harness connections to the Door Lock/Switch Assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU)
• Door Lock/Switch Assembly Failure

Replace failed component.
