Refrigerator myth busted

As far as I know, you can transport a refrigerator laying down but you should leave it upright for 24 hours BEFORE you plug it in.

A couple questions first. Did you transport the fridge laying down. If so did you give it equal time standing up before you plugged it in? For every hour its laying down that much time it must stand up before plugging in. If you didnt do this there is a chance that the compressor may have failed. The oil in the compressor must have time to return back to the compressor or its in the coils when it gets plugged in and the compressor runs dry and warps internally.

Now if you gave it time usually I tell everyone give it 24hrs. Check to see if the fans are going in the freezer. Check the fan by the compressor. Check the compressor to see if its operating.

Although it is not recommend to transport on its back, it can be done if you block the conpressor up and pad it.

BUT you should always let the refrigerator stand upright for 6 hours for just major tilts, so I would highly recommend 24 hours to be safe if you transported it on its back.

Hello, Yes you can move your side by side laying on it's back..it is most important though that when you have it in it's new place you leave it unpluged for 24 hours so the oils can run back into the compressor. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again...Mike

If you plugged it in soon after you stood it upright you did not allow the oil to run back down into the compresser, you may have killed it. If the temp does not get regular in 24 hours it is not going to. Dont change the settings more than 1 number every 3 hours.
