How To Enable SMTP SSL Port on Sharp Network Scanner

From time to time I will get an odd error when setting up scanning to email on a Sharp copier that says:

(SMTP-SSL) Port is disabled. Consult your system admin.

I'll admit, this error had me puzzled the first few times I saw it, and I thought the problem was within the router, not in the Sharp printer. The first time I saw the error I worked around it and used an SMTP server that didn't require SSL. Since those servers are becoming more and more difficult to find lately, I decided to figure out why this error was being generated by my copiers. The solution was simpler that I originally thought it would be. It was in an area of the web interface that we technicians don't normally fumble around in, the security settings.

The Solution

If you're getting the "(SMTP-SSL)Port is disabled. Consult your system admin." error, here is the quick fix. Before we get started you'll need to know the Sharp copier's IP address. I'll assume you already know how to get into the web GUI if you're setting up scan to email, but if you don't know the IP address of the copier you can print a NIC page with this information on it.
Here is a YouTube video(with my monotone voice-over) on how to run through the procedure described below:

1. From the Sharp's IP accessed web interface first login as an administrator by clicking Login at the top right corner. The default administrator password is "admin" by default.

2. Next, click Security Settings at the bottom of the left menu, then click Port Control underneath Security Settings.

3. Scroll down on the Port Control page to find the Client Port area, then look for the SMTP-SSL option, enable it, then click submit at the bottom of the page.

At this point you should be able to scan to email with an SMTP server that requires SSL. I'm not sure why this port setting is disabled from time to time, but at least it's a quick fix.

To verify your connection to the SMTP server click Network Settings on the left menu.

Scroll down to the SMTP section, and click Execute on the connection test. A popup will ask if you want to run the test with the displayed DNS servers, say OK, then you should have your successful reply.

In conclusion, this is a rare issue, but has a simple solution. If you'd like to lease a copier in Houston just request a quote or contact me. I'll get you fixed up quickly and I'll match or beat any price you've been given on a Sharp copier.

failed to connect to smtp server

hi
Most common reason for 'Outlook cannot connect to SMTP server' error is the wrong configuration settings of Outlook. This happens especially in the case of newly configured email accounts.
A mis-spelled mail server name to a wrong port setting in Outlook can cause connectivity issues to the mail server and end up giving error while trying to send or receive mails.
By default, the port settings for mail related services are these, and a connection problem to these ports can lead to Outlook error:
SMTP - port 25 / 587 POP3 - port 110 IMAP - port 143 Secure SMTP (SSMTP) - port 465 IMAP4 over SSL (IMAPS) - port 993 Secure POP3 (SSL-POP) - port 995 There are also chances that some web masters may have duplicate profiles in Outlook, which will have an old mail server configured in it, and therefore would be trying to connect to the wrong mail server.

I would like to scan a color picture and send it to my e-mail address. What are the exact steps to do this.

Type the machine ip adress on the adress bar of the machine and hit enter.
Then the machine webpage will appear

1. Click the Network Settings link, login asadmin, username is admin and password is also admin and click the Services Settings link.

2. Use the SMTP server IP addresses in the Primary andSecondary Server fields rather than the server names.

3. Verify if the mail server is using the default SMTP portof 25. If it is not, then change the Port Number to match the server. Port 587is a commonly used port if authentication is required.

4. The Reply Email Address must be a valid local emailaddress for some mail servers or messages will be discarded. If using a Reply Email Address like: [email protected] [email protected] confirm that the email address actually exists.

5. If the server is running SSL (GMail uses SSL) for bettersecurity, check the box next to Enable SSL. Click here for instructions on how to setup scan to GMail.

6. Leave the User Name and Password blank temporarily andperform the Connection Test. A successful response will verify that the serveris really a valid SMTP mail server.

The following should be performed byan I.T. person

Mail server settings

1.Createa new user account and password for the mfp on the mail server this useraccount name , the name set in the mfp

The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

You want to use these settings to  configure a mail client for yahoo:

Incoming mail server settings
POP server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL
Port: 995

Outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings
SMTP server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL
Port: 465 (or 587 if your ISP is blocking 465)

And, of course, you also need to put in:
Username (yahoo login username)
Email Address
Password (yahoo password)

Good luck!

Scan to email gives server response error in home network. SMTP server tried by IP address and DNS name. Port 25 Authorisation POP for SMTP. The other authorisation types give a network error straight away. Internet Provider account settings used which work in Outlook. Also tried the POP server by IP Address and DNS name Port 110 Authorisation set on POP for SMTP I've added the MAC address to the allowed list of the router. The MFP and clients are in the same subnet. Raised the time out from 20 to 50 seconds to prevent timeout. What am I missing here?

I've just discovered that Ricoh's built in software only works if your SMTP server sends out without picking up password or authentication.
Having same issue and it worked fine when it was behind corporate firewall with the same connection settings (IP address) as the SMTP server.
Once I changed web hosting - it won't recognize the SMTP server or any authentication methods. According to IKON (Ricoh support for the USA) - your SMTP server has to have "relay exception"
