Tip & How-To about Nikon D7000 Digital Camera

How to Format a Memory Card with a Nikon D700

1) Insert the memory card you wish to format into the Nikon D700's body using the memory card slot on its' right side. Make sure the power is off before you insert the card and that you place the card in correctly. The D700 will only accept CF cards, so make sure you have this type available.
2) Turn the camera on with the power switch. Only do this after you have inserted the memory card and closed the memory card slot.
3) Press and hold both the Trash and MODE buttons down for about 2 seconds. Together, these are known as the 'Format' button. The Trash button is located on the back face of the D700 body next to the Preview button, and the MODE button is located on the top of the D700 body next to the shutter button and power switch. If done correctly, the letters 'For' should appear blinking in the shutter-speed sections of both the view finder and control panel.
4) Press and hold both the Trash and MODE buttons again to format the memory card. This will delete all photographs on your memory card and format it. Do not turn off the camera or remove the memory card while the card is being formatted. If you do not want to format the memory card, simply do not press the Trash and MODE buttons the second time and wait for the blinking 'For' to disappear, which it will do after about 6 seconds.
5) Wait until the blinking 'For' disappears. The display will now show the full amount of photographs that can now be taken on the formatted card.
6) Alternatively, you can also format your memory card from the Setup Menu in the D700 LCD menus. You can access this by pressing the MENU button on the back of the D700 body, selecting the Setup Menu and pressing Format Memory Card, OK. This will format your memory card immediately.

How can i switch to a memory card?

Most digital cameras use either a secure digital (SD), compact flash (CF), memory stick, multi-media cards or XDcards.

Step 1: Power the camera off and determine what type of card your camera uses. You can check the owners manual, go to the manufacturer's site, or look on the camera to find out what card you use.

This is a picture of an "SD" card in a Digital Camera.

Step 2: Insert the memory card into the camera by locating the memory card slot on the bottom or side of the camera body. Open the memory card door by using an "Eject" button or sliding the panel to the side. Insert the memory card as advised by the icon on the inside of the door. Close the door and turn the camera on.

Step 3: Format the memory card for the camera. Many digital cameras will do this for you once the memory card in inserted and the camera is powered on. On some cameras you can do this manually:
Press your camera's "Menu" button, select "Tools," and find the "Format" feature. Select "Format" and press "OK" or "Set" to format the memory card. Press the shutter button to exit "Menu" mode.

To remove the memory card, open the camera as you were able to in Step 2. Then press the end of the card in and release. The card will slide out of the camera.

Some accessories may be required to transfer media to your computer. There may already be a slot in your computer for the card, if not, an SD to usb kit can be purchased online or from a local electronics vendor for a reasonable price.

the camera beeps when we put the card in.

The images you take with your PDC 640 camera are stored on a removable 3.3V SSFDC or SmartMedia 2 MB memory card (also available in 4 MB and 8 MB). Note: You must insert the memory card before you can turn on the camera.

If camera beeps is enabled, the camera beeps if the card is not installed and displays the [ ] message on the Status panel.

To insert the memory card:
1. Make sure the lens cover is closed (the power is off).
2. Open the memory compartment on the side of the camera.
3. Insert the memory card into the slot (gold side of the card facing the front of the camera).
Make sure the card is pushed firmly into the slot. Note: The camera prompts you to format the memory card if it is not formatted. The camera displays the format menu on the LCD viewfinder. Press the button next to Format.
4. Close the memory compartment cover.

If you can, try using a different memory card. Else, your memory card contact terminals inside the camera may have become worn, causing the camera to not recognize the card once it is inserted.

Cannot find instructions in manual for Nikon Coolpix S210 on how to delete ALL photos from memory disk. It will let me delete one at a time but I want to wipe the memory card clean. Thanks for any and all help.

These instructions are from the Instruction Manual of the Coolpix S 210 and need to be carried out within the Set-Up Menu.

Refer Page 19:

Removing Memory Cards
Before removing memory cards, turn the camera off
and confirm that the power-on lamp is off. Open the
battery-chamber/memory card slot cover and press the
card in 1 to partially eject the card 2. The card can
then be removed by hand.
B Formatting Memory Cards
If the message at right is displayed, the memory card must be
formatted before use (A110). Note that formatting permanently
deletes all pictures and other data on the memory card. Be sure
to make copies of any pictures you wish to keep before formatting
the memory card.
Use the multi selector to choose Yes and press k. The
confirmation dialog will be displayed. To start formatting, choose
Format and press k.
Do not turn the camera off or open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover until
formatting is complete.
• The first time you insert the memory cards used in other devices into the COOLPIX S210, be sure to
format them using this camera (A110).

Refer Pg 110:

 Format Memory/m Format Card
Use this option to format the internal memory or a memory card.
Formatting the Internal Memory
To format the internal memory, remove the memory
card from the camera.
The Format memory option appears in the setup
menu.
Formatting a Memory Card
When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the
Format card option appears in the setup menu.

Hope this helps

What does no card mean? Thank you.

"No card" means that either
  1. You have not inserted a memory card
  2. The memory card is not formatted, or
  3. The memory card is damaged and therefore can't be read by the camera.
How to insert the memory card:
  1. Open the camera’s battery door by sliding it downwards.
  2. Insert the SD card into the slot as shown inside the camera’s battery compartment. The SD card can only be inserted one way.
  3. Press the SD card completely into the camera and then close the door. Open the door and press on the memory card if you wish to remove it.
Note: There is only one way to insert the SD memory card into the slot. Do not force the card into the slot. This may damage both the camera and the SD memory card.

Before you can use the card, it has to be formatted:
  1. Insert the memory card into your camera as described above.
  2. Turn the camera on by pressing the power button.
  3. Use the multi-select button to select the "SET" option.
  4. Press the right arrow button to set "System" then press down key to select "Format".
  5. The default option is ‘Format’. Select this option by pressing the OK button.
  6. Select "Yes" to format the card.
If all this does not work it might be that your SD card is damaged. Try to replace it with another one. If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Cant find format option to use memory card on CoolpixS60

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
