Tip & How-To about Nikon D70s Digital Camera

Flashing green death

My Nikon D70 quit working and would only flash a green light. I contacted Nikon and they fixed it, no charge. I was very happy with Nikon for the free repair! If you have this problem, go to the Nikon website and do a search for flashing green light. They cover this problem as a defect and did not ask for any proof of purchase or anything. Very smooth and easy. Thank you Nikon!!!

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

Problem

If D70, and it applies to any card used then examine the loading LED. This is a green diode which gives a brief flash when you insert a card. If it continues flashing whilst giving you the message, then this is a know fault with the camera and Nikon will fix it free of charge.

Nikon D70 flah not working, used to

I had this problem a while back, but was fortunate to get it fixed under warantee as it was less than six months after Nikon repaired my D70 for the "blinking green light of death" fault.

I'm afraid this is a repair job for Nikon or an autorized workshop. It is most likley the flash tube. If you fancy taking your camera apart (I warn you it would be a fairly difficult job) then please be aware that you may get a significant electric shock from the flash capacitor, which will remain charged.
