Base -in use & ans
Hi.
T
ry doing a full system power reset. This is done performing the following, simply disconnecting the power adapter won't be enough:
- Disconnect all power adapter cables from wallsockets.
- Remove all handsets from cradles.
- Remove all battery from cradles.
- Fit back the batteries in their handsets.
- Place back handsets in their cradles.
- Connect power cables.
The
procedure above will reset the system and will re-sync handsets to
cradles. If that does not work, then some of the units comprised in the system is
defective. In that case the only way of having the system fixed is calling the manufacturer and sending the units in the system back for repair.
Regards.
Ginko.

I just got the AT&T
You can't mute the volume with a single button like on a TV. All you can do is turn the volume down with the control on the unit. (Then, of course, you have to remember to turn it back up!) You can get the manual
here if you need a copy.

How to change the outgoing
Are you at the answering machine or calling into the machine? If you are at the machine, press and hold Annc/Skip. Wait for the beep and then speak normally from about 9 inches away from the mic (just below the Play/Stop button). You will see a dash in the display. To stop recording, press Annc/Skip. The system will play back your message. (If you press and release the Annc/Skip button, it will play back the current message.)
If you are dialing in, once you are into the system, press 7 * and wait for the beep. Speak your message and then press 5. The message will play back.
I hope this helps.

Our power went off and
Explaining the steps for reprogramming your answering machines are quite
elaborate and would take too much to explain so i have sent you a link
to help download the user manuals the first is for AT&T
http://uversephones.att.com/docMgt/public/art/286/1818_manual.pdf
Next is for the VTech.

Hope this solution has been helpful?

Can i undelete messages?
how do
Once a message is deleted on a digital answering machine, unfortunately it is gone forever. To record a new outgoing message, there should be an ANNC button.Simply hold it down and it will prompt you when to speak.1 suggestion, never say your are not home.Just say something like we can't come to the phone right now... OMG! I just looked at mine and I think it's the same exact one.LOL.Holding down the Clock button will open a whole other set of options such as rings before answer, date time etc.Use the MEMO/REPEAT BUTTON(decreases numbers) and the ANNC/SKIP BUTTON(increase numbers) to change the numbers.Hold it down, set the setting, press the clock button again for next option and so on until you hit it and it repeats everything you set automatically when it's done.Your message and messages people leave WILL stay on it during a power outage, just have to reset time, but once something deletes, like I said it is gone forever. If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I really encourage responses so I can follow up properly as I know where you stand and asking someone else restarts all the explaining because we cannot see other 'Expert's' responses.Good luck,Greg

How do you change the number of rings before
When the AT&T 1717 digital answering machine is powered off it will answer an incoming call after 10 rings, it will announce "machine is off" then beep twice, dial 0 to turn it on. The machine is now ready to answer calls. This 10 ring setting is factory set and cannot be modified. To set the number of rings to answer for normal operation press <SET UP> button and hold for 2 seconds, machine will announce current ring setting. Press and release <ANNC/SKIP> or <MEMO/REPEAT> until you hear the number of rings you want. Press and release <PLAY/STOP> to exit. The ring settings available are 2, 4, and toll saver. When set to toll saver machine will answer after 4 rings when there are no new messages and after two rings when is anew message. Here is a link where you can download manual,

The original 3-digit remote access code was "500" -- you'd call your number and then, when the machine answered, key in the RAC.

Check messages fromanother phone
Many answering machines do allow that. The code may be printed on the bottom of the machine or in the manual if you still have it.If you do not,you may be able to call AT&T customer support with your model and serial number and they may be able to find it for you.You can try looking it up online but it seems like a security issue(i guess) and may not be able to do it that way. Good luck!
