Try this
Ensure that a cartridge is not inserted
Hold down the Hint (?) button while turning the unit on. Continue to hold the Hint button down until the LEAPSTER menu appears. When the LEAPSTER menu screen appears, press the A button.Touch each of the crosshairs that appear with the stylus, Restart unit
run a toothpick around the screen under the plastic frame and pick out dirt, food particles etc. and see if this helps. Do it very carefully not to damage the screen.
Have you tried to upload it to the computer? Sometimes they get too much information on them and won't work. Are all of the connections to the batteries cleaned? Sometimes, also, there are bad connections between the machine and the batteries. Hope this helps.
Did it come with the batteries installed or seperate? Make sure they work in another device after they charged for 24hrs.
sometimes there is a seperator tap inside that needs to be pulled out

1) Please run the LeapFrog Utility http://lfccontent.leapfrog.com/cs/utilities/LeapFrog_Connect_Utility.exe2) Select "Clear LeapFrog Connect User Data"3) Start the LeapFrog Connect application and wait until the message center indicates that all Leapster Explorer Updates have been downloaded.4) Power on and plug in your Leapster Explorer.
open your leapfrog connect and plug in your device to ur pc. click on ur child's name. on the left at the bottom you'll see "on this device" click it, it'll show u a list of what's been bought/downloaded onto the leapster, you can fix it from there I had the same problem 2 weks ago and this is how I fixed it. and if it's not showing an app that you purchased at the very bottom there's a clicky "check for new dowloads" just in case... and here are 2 free codes for you: book 5813 1140 1518 1413 (might be 1314... sorry) game (alphabet stew) 5813 0709 4610 4973 hope they still work....
We have the same problem and our leapster is only 2 days old.Do Touch
Screen Calibration,it should help.I do it everytime for my son when he
wants to play and it does help...But once u turn leapster off,u'll have
to calibrate it again next time...
Just hold down hint button while turning on.When the Leapster menu
screen appears, press the A button.Touch each of the crosshairs that
appear with the stylus.restart unit. ..That what we do everytime.
We have 3 Leapsters. The old green model and 2 newer models. Our green one started doing that not long after having it. But it still works and if it shuts off, then we just turn it back on again. When I called up c/s for Leapster, they sort of make it difficult to return. And then I was not promised a new one, but it could be new or refurbished. I let it go. Now w/ the 2 new models, I believe this has happened. I've questioned if my kid's are accidentally hitting the power button. I have seen the green one power off before. I purchased the $10 plug in's. So worth it. No more batteries. And we haven't had any issues. So perhaps it is the batteries. Call up Leapster though and see what they have to say. Good luck! :)
