An easy way to check the remote is to use a digital camera. Turn the camera on and point the remote at the lens. Look at the camera screen and press a button on the remote. A new one should cost 12 to 14 dollars. P S don;t let anyone sell you a new capacitor as part of an A/C service. If the motor runs the capacitor is good. A new one will fail for the same reason an old one would. Some shameless servicers charge as much as they think you can pay.
